Obviously concerned, but glad I found this place.

Hi all. I'm 54, and have been reading this forum since i got a PSA of 44 around a week ago after a well overdue health check, and have found it very helpful and friendly, thanks. Had an MRI scan today, and I've got my first appointment with a Urologist tomorrow so this process is moving along well. All the best to new and old here.

  • Good evening  and welcome but sorry that you have found yourself in this position. Here is a link to a book which you can download for free and the title says it all.

The Urologist should give you some answers tomorrow and hopefully you will have someone with you as 4 ears are better than two. If necessary you could ask to record the meeting and don't forget to ask for copies of all reports. Don't be rushed into making any decisions and ask for what all your options are. Come back with any questions and we will try and help.

All the best for tomorrow and don't forget that 98% of men die with prostate cancer and not of it.

  • Thanks for your helpful advice,  much appreciated.

  • Hi  - you seem to have a nice positive attitude to the diagnosis. With a PSA of 44, it’s likely that the MRI will spot something but don’t be spooked by this. A PIRADS score will be 1-5 , with 5 being most definite.  But 5 merely means that they have a really clear picture (the cancer could be in the gland portion facing the scanner, you may be slim build, etc).  Stay calm, as you appear to be now, and push the process of diagnosis along (politely).  We can comment on questions that you may have, as you progress.   AW
