Hello all
My BMD has significantly decreased as per recent dexa scan. As compared to the baseline at the start of my ADT.
Having discussed with my onco as well as my orthopedic doctors, the choice of treatment is narrowed down to denosumab and teraparatide.
I would like to know if people can share their experiences with both of these.
Denosumab has an advantage of once in 6 month or 3 month injection, while its disadvantage is side effects like.osteonecrossis of the jaw. Also tjey say once u stop it, bmd starts decreasing fast.
In teraparatide, it is to be injected subcutaneous daily for a min of 3 months and max of 2 years.
I want to hear expereinces of people who have taken these meds.
Hello Warrior68 . My husband has been on Xgeva (Denosumab) since 2020 ever since he was diagnosed and told he would be on HT for life. He has a 120mg injection every 2 months and has had no problems at all taking it. It is important to have a dental checkup before starting it plus calcium levels should be checked and made sure that there is no deficiency before commencement. It is advisable to take a calcium and vitamin D supplement whilst on it.
He has no experience of teraparatide
Hi thanks for your reply. Regarding denosumab i have heard of its rare side effect of osteonecrosis of the jaw.
Does this happen frequently to patients on denosumab? Did ur husband ever have any jaw bone pain or teeth pain/loss?
Thx
Hi. Hubby had to have a tooth out but that was after his checkup prior to starting treatment. Since then there has been no change. I like to find out statistics and this is the latest article I can find which indicates that it is pretty rare when taking Denosumab compared to biphosphonates.
