Diagnosis

Today my consultant phoned me. He said that my scans and biopsy showed no cancer, and as my original PSA was 77, another blood test would be done this Friday, and if still elevated then sedated biopsies would take place. He said if the PSA level starts to decrease then active surveillance would take place. His diagnosis was just one line……

Patient Provided Information:
Summary of diagnosis:
  1. “PSA 77, PIRADS 3, negative biopsy.”
I’m sort of confused now! If the PSA is lower then that’s it!!! Or indeed, if it’s still high then a sedated biopsy, and if there’s still no cancer, then that’s it also!!  I mentioned that I’m still going to the toilet 4-6 times a night, so he’s ordered a flow test and bladder diary. Am I right to be confused and still worried? A PSA of 77 and all clear! I asked him if he has encountered other patients with such a high PSA level but no sign of cancer, but he didn’t actually reply, and just said we’ll see what the next blood test shows, and take it from there. I know I should be ecstatic tonight, but I’m uneasy. Anyone else ever had such a high PSA but with no cancer found?
  • Hi Anthony5, I have heard of biopsies missing cancer due to the small number of cores taken, do you know how many you had removed, especially with the TRUS biopsy, hopefully a second, more thorough biopsy will clear things up, I will have everything crossed for good news

  • Eddie thank you. I asked how many biopsies were taken but he just said he didn’t have that information at this time, but they were all negative. As you say the next biopsy will hopefully clear things up. Thanks again

  • I hope so, and for the better, my friend,
