Hi all
just little update on my brother he’s now on triplet therapy which he started last week all going well till last night felt really sick terrible heartburn high blood presure etc said he couldn’t handle the pain in stomach . Trip to A&E and they have said he should have been given protection for his stomach with all the steroids etc so they have put him on emoprazole and feeling much better today fatigue really bad but he said that’s tolerable it was just the heartburn and stomach pains so hopefully them side effects will subside but overall except for last night he has been ok .

Just on 14 years ago I had a reaction to the NSAID Diclafenac which caused bleeding into my stomach.
Because no one knew what was causing it at first I spent a week in hospital. I had 2 blood transfusions.
About the third day in I was given omeprazole. An endoscopy showed the kind of ulcer often produced by the the reaction to the medicine, which was healing rapidly.
The medication resolved my problems.
I have recently restarted it given painkillers prescribed for a back problem.
It worked for me, and I hope it works for your brother.
Tell him to keep fighting.
Steve
Changed, but not diminished.
Good morning Bg65 .
I am glad to hear that your brother is coping with the chemotherapy at the moment but remind him to tell the medical team about all his side effects before his next cycle.
Omeprazole (Losec) is prescribed for a number of reasons including to protect the intestines for those on steroids. See how your brother gets on with it. A banana is alkaline and good for settling the stomach plus the fiber helps. The chemotherapy kills off good as well as bad cells, particularly those which multiply fast like hair follicles and the gut lining so it helps to have a varied but soft diet plus little and often might be better for him.

My husband was prescribed with this initially but found that Domperidone was more effective for him in dealing with the steroid side effects. In other words there are alternatives to help out with side effects.
Good Morning Bg65
Thank you for the update - I am so pleased he's got it sorted and I hope it's not put him off his treatment.
Best wishes - Brian.

Do you know if he can? Anyway thank you so much for replying

I have checked back on my husband's diary during chemo and he did report feeling off balance on a couple of occasions. Again this is a side effect and something to keep an eye on, particularly if he develops peripheral neuropathy.
I can't comment on whether it is possible to have a TURP whilst having chemotherapy, this is one for the experts unless someone in the know has experience. The chemotherapy itself could shrink the cancer in the prostate so it might help. Brian Millibob had a catheter for many months so he is the person to help with any issues your brother might have.
Hello Bg65
It's me again!!
Yes, I had an indwelling catheter for 10 months. It took a couple of weeks to get used to it but after that it was my best friend!! Anything you need to know just ask. The two points I would make are ensure all joints are pushed in tight especially when changing to a night bag and wash the area around where the catheter enters the penis. If he has a foreskin, pull it back and wash away any debris (there will be debris).
And yes, I have had a TURP operation to improve my flow. The link is here:
it's pain free and boy does it help. I had to wait 10 months for mine so i would think it will be at the end of his Chemotherapy.
Anything you need to know - just ask.
Best wishes - Brian.
