I'm 54 and been diagnosed with prostate cancer.... Why the fuck me?? Truth be told I'm lucky, it's been diagnosed early and I have options. My psa has risen quite a bit in last 12 months and surgeons pushing me for surgery within the month.... Through mcmillan I've decided Brachtherapy and I'm about start in next couple of months so if anyone wants a chat or just support let me know and we'll
l get through this together, if I can help 1 fellow man then my jobs been done.. There's life after diagnosis
Hi again, I had the same dilema, choosing between SBRT and Brachtherapy, as my view was they would both do a good job with the least side effects. I only chose Brachytherapy because it had a longer track record, however, it could have gone either way as SBRT does look good and technology has moved on, so this may well be the new standard for clatterbridge, which was my understanding please keep posting, I update my profile weekly.
Thanks for comments, Is SBRT standard Beam Radio Therapy
No.
It stands for this:-
Stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT)
This tells you about it...
The more usual radiotherapy, which I have just finished, is EBRT.
This stands for External Beam Radiotherapy.
Steve
Changed, but not diminished.
Hi Bluecloud1 just to give you another term SBRT is sometimes called SABR (stereotactic ablative RT). David
Best wishes, David
Please remember that I am not medically trained and the above are my personal views.
Evening guys.. Gals and anybody thats interested , so have ruled out surgery as too aggressive for my score. So now I have a choice between sbrt and Brachtherapy, good choice to have and I feel blessed that I have a choice! Cancer is a horrible word but with the advancements in treatment it's not a death sentence if caught early, let's get brothers, mates and work colleagues checked early and I'm sure we can save at least one life.... Onwards and upwards and stay strong..
Ps what's peoples thoughts between sbrt and Brachtherapy as im 50/50 at the moment.... I'm erring on sbrt but for no reason other than it's yin liverpool.
Lastly if any one new needs to chat or needs to offload then message me, I'm not god, I'm not a specialist but I'm going through what u are so together we're stronger
Tricky one, my bio is there to be read, however, it’s still early days and I do tend to need to go to the toilet quite a bit more, but I do get warning and sometimes it can be a bit slow, ie a minute or 2 longer and there is not as much horsepower there as before. Everything else is ok, but I am expecting to be getting dry orgasms soon as the consultant reminded me yesterday, but I think that may be common across the radiotherapies. I do recall clatterbridge saying to me that SABR is becoming their standard, is that your understanding.. If so, we just need to find someone who has had it for some kind of comparison.. That said though, it’s early days, who knows what the future holds, but I feel hopeful given the track record..
Cheers Bluecloud1
Exactly we need someone who's had sbrt!? Maybe that's me who knows but we all need to be honest here, diagnosis ain't great but prognosis can be good..... THERE is life after cancer, juwbe positive and strong
