I have not been diagnosed yet but today I got the results of my RMI for possible prostate cancer, and there was a dark spot (only 2-3 mm diameter) outside and near to my enlarged prostrate gland. I am having a biopsy on 11th Feb with results 2 days later.
I am a bit confused, because the consultant didn't really say that much about it, and this morning I was not well informed or experienced enough to ask all the pertinent questions. This afternoon I have been reading up on prostate cancer. What I am unsure about is whether this means if that dark spot it is malignant, will it mean that I do have prostate cancer at stage 3 (because it has spread beyond the prostate gland OR possibly my prostate has no issues and this dark spot if malignant is a very early stage 1 cancer which is independent of my prostate gland? I did ask, if this dark spot is malignant does it mean that I am in the early stages of cancer and he said yes (but he didn't expand upon that). But surely stage 3 is not early stages of cancer?
So at the moment my thought process is that because I have an enlarged prostate gland it is quite likely that my prostate would be cancerous (if the dark spot is malignant) but I am also wondering if maybe I could be lucky and it could merely be a co-incidence that my prostate is enlarged and there is a cancerous dark spot near it?
What do others think. its Friday afternoon now so no chance of me getting in touch with the hospital.
Hello Ozzie_dog
A warm welcome to the Macmillan Online Prostate Community, although I am so sorry to find you here, I am Brian one of the Community Champions here and I am also in my 4th year of my personal Prostate Cancer journey.
The MRI may show possible "dark spots" mine did too and we are still unsure what they are (click on my name or avatar for my full journey) so try not to worry too much about that - the diagnosis will come from the biopsy. You don't say what your PSA is and that is also important. An enlarged Prostate is not always caused by Prostate Cancer too so until you do get a diagnosis it may not be Prostate Cancer.
i don't know what sources you have been reading for your information but i would advise using only trusted sources, Prostate cancer UK, Cancer Research UK and Macmillan (not Dr Google as the information there is sometimes out of date or just wrong).
You say your biopsy is on 11 February with results 2 days later - I assume this is a private biopsy and not the NHS?
I do hope this helps - please do come back to us with any questions.
Best wishes - Brian.

Hi Ozzie
Strange that they didn't give you the PSA, hopefully it may not be cancer anyway
A bit unusual to have a tumour outside the gland but not inside, hopefully the biopsy will tell you everything you need to know.
But even if it is cancer 2-3 mm is very small so if just outside the gland then still potentially curable.
All the best and let us know when U know more
Steve
Good Evening Ozzie_do
So your PSA is a blood test which helps to indicate if you have Prostate Cancer - if you have the NHS App with access to your records your latest PSA readings will be shown under "Test Results".
Here's a link to our guide to The Trans-Perineal Biopsy
If you get your biopsy results in two days I will be amazed - 4 - 6 WEEKS is the normal wait on the NHS.
Best wishes - Brian.

Thanks, the hospital did give me a blood test just before the RMI but nothing has been said about it, I couldn't access anything under test results on the NHS App, They have also emailed me a letter confirming that my results will follow 2 days after the biopsy.
Ozzie_dog , I suggest you contact your surgery next week and ask for FULL access to your records on the NHS App. Not all locations are connected but if you are lucky you should see your GP results and hospital notes. Good luck with your biopsy and results. David
Thanks for the information and support everyone, I am coping well and I'm pleased that I only after to wait 12 days to find out where I stand. And it's good that I found this website for further help if my updated position isn't good news the week after next.
