My husband started hormone treatment some 10 weeks ago following a diagnosis of metastatic prostate cancer - his cancer journey to date can be read on his profile. He has responded well to the treatment with minimal side effects however over the past 10 days or so he has noticed that he has, on occasion, passed blood in his urine. This doesn’t happen every time he urinates, and the amount of blood varies, but never the less worrying. The GP has tested his urine sample and ruled out an urine infection but the problem persists. My question to all of you is, have any of you suffered this problem or are you aware of this being a side effect of the treatment. Many thanks for reading this.
Hi Friendship , sorry your OH is experiencing problems. I noticed that nobody had responded after 2 hours (which is fairly unusual), so I imagine that the problem isn’t that common. Unless anyone comes back to you, I definitely think it’s one for the professionals. Do you have a cancer nurse specialist you normally call or perhaps the MacMillan help line ask a nurse link would be options (I can locate the link on my iPad but hopefully someone will respond). Best wishes, David
Thank you David. Yes, we have a specialist nurse and I’ll will be contacting him this afternoon. I just thought someone may have experienced this problem as I know how helpful, and supportive, everyone is in this group.
Friendship , hi again, I have just found the link to the MacMillan
Ask a Nurse
so by all means try them. David
Hello Friendship
I agree with David2017 it is a question for his team or back to the GP. I have just read the PIL (Patient Information leaflet) for both Prostap and Enzalutamide and they don't mention blood in urine as a side effect although it says there can be other "rare side effects".
I hope you get him sorted, please keep us posted.
Best wishes - Brian.

Hello Friendship . I don't know whether this will help but my first thought was that it could be a side effect of radiotherapy.
I hope you get it sorted soon but it does suggest it is one for the experts.
Thank you Millibob, we’re going to speak to his team to see what they th8nk is causing it. We’ll keep you posted.
Thank you for your response. We’re going to get in touch with the Cancer Team to see if they can shed any light on it. Thankfully it’s not currently causing pain.
