Hi

I am getting prostratectomy on Saturday and getting in supplies for post surgery.

Has anybody got any suggestions on what pads etc to use post surgery?

TIA

  • Hello  . Huffies did a brilliant summary on pads and pants.

Pads and what you need to know

Also wear something like joggers which can discreetly accommodate the catheter.

    All the best for Saturday.

  • Hello

Wife speaking here of O/H having gone through Prostatectomy early last year.

We found level 4 pads or highest level of absorbancy best in early days of catheter removal.

He practiced pelvic floor excercises before Surgery as advised to help strengthen muscles prior to RALP and continues to this day to help incontinence and hopefully ED recovery by downloading the Squeezy App.

We found Morrisons pads quite good later down the line as they had elastic barriers along the sides which gave reassurance from leakage.

We found tighter fitting pants the best in making good contact with pads against body although perhaps slightly looser ones whilst scars are repairing after surgery.

Also Prostate Cancer UK offer one time free samples of a few different brands for PC candidates which we found helpful.

Hope this has been helpful as we know how daunting it all is not knowing what to expect.

  • You will be fine. Listen to your body, don't lift anything other than a cup of tea

Don't allow any drag on catheter, Very painful. Drink plenty of water . No alcohol for a while..Rest up but try to get a few short walks and increase as your body allows. Be patient, you may experience excessive wind initially , it will pass. Do not force it. Best wishes.

  •   , I didn't have surgery but I did have Radiotherapy.  I got some pads through a district nurse, via my GP.  These were massive but good to use to sleep on top of, to stop anything seeping through to my mattress.

  • We purchased a waterproof mattress cover to use under the sheet.

Just gave peace of mind think we had two minor incidents post op to date.

  • I stocked up too before my RALP.  Glad i did as I need a pad during the day to catch the seepage from around the catheter.

I went for Tena - stocked up on Level 3 and 2 along with their Premium Fit 'Protective Underwear"  - basically pants!  I also bought some nappy sacks for odourless disposal and a little waterproof sheet to pop on the bed.

    Best wishes for Saturday.
