Can someone shed any light on why OH John was told today by a macmillan nurse (on a call to confirm PC diagnosis) that he should avoid caffeine and fizzy drinks?
Hi Ally52
I am Gleason 9
Treatable not curable, with aggressive PC which has broken out into lymph nodes deep in the pelvis, please feel free to read my profile.
I have had HT/Chemo and Radiotherapy.
The radiotherapy ha given me side affects in the way of my bladder and bowels.
I am therefore waiting two appointments for St Mary’s in Manchester to help with things moving forward via Colorectal after being referred by my Oncologist at Christie Hospital Manchester.
My bladder and bowel nurse gave me a chart of things that are classed as an irritant making me urinate a lot as especially in the night.
I don’t know if John has the same trouble, unless it is just a precautionary measure on the nurses side.
Bad drinks...
Tea, Coffee, Hot chocolate, Green tea, black currant juice-Vimeo/Rubens,
Citrus fruit and juices, Tomatoes, Cola & fizzy drinks and Alcohol.
Good Drinks...
Water(still), Milk, Decaf coffee, Decaf tea, Herbal-teas (not citrus),
Milk shakes (not chocolate) Fruit Juice-Apple,pear, grape, are recommended and also Summer fruits/mixed berries.
I may be on the wrong path as I don’t know if he has a problem but the information
may help someone, but I would think it may come in to keep hold of it.
I wish you both all the best moving forward,
take care, always here

Hello Alison (Ally52)
It's a new one on me - perhaps she's trying to keep him fit!! Or it's possible she's thinking he's off to Radiotherapy soon as those 2 are on the "NO" list for Radiotherapy.
Best wishes - Brian.

Hi Ally
I was told that both caffeine and fizzy drinks tend to irritate the bladder, so should be avoided, or at least very strictly limited.
I am 9 months post-RT now but still restrict my caffeine to one cup of green tea for breakfast.
I'm sure others on here will also be able to explain.
I'm now 12+ months clear of my RT and HT and my most recent PSA test came back at <0.05 which is obviously very encouraging.
I think I have read everything I can find about prostate cancer but one thing puzzles me. I understand that if my PSA rises within certain parameters I may be offered more HT(which would be fine by me) BUT would this be because an increasing PSA would 'feed' any residual cancer (so needed to be lowered again) or because it was a sign that the cancer was already coming back?
Thank you Brian for your kind words, don’t worry I’m still smiling and thinking of the positive things I have in my life.
nice knowing that you are not far away.
keep telling myself it’s all about living life and not just existing....
Take care my friend
