Had my biopsy on Thursday afternoon, the people at Stamford hospital were fantastic I have been fine since and only today (Sunday afternoon) have i noticed a couple of spots of blood in my wee which seems odd as it's a couple of days since the biopsy

  • Hi Mace. Blood and clots in the urine can be seen for up to two weeks after the biopsy but provided there is no blockage then all should be fine. You might also notice that the semen can be a rusty colour which can be quite disconcerting if you are not expecting it.

  • Aaahhh! Stamford Hospital ! If this is Stamford, Lincs it’s the place of my birth!!!

    hope the recovery goes well!

  • Yep Stamford lincs.    And thank you

  • Hi, just joined the forum.  I had a DRE in December and PSA, PSA was 1.47 which was fine but DRE showed some abnormality, so had an MRI scan.  Saw specialist a few days OK, and apparently original abnormality was nothing but MRI showed something the other side so now awaiting an urgent biopsy at Stamford hospital too.  Been totally stressing out about it all, I'm 57 years old and not ready to meet my maker yet.

  • Hello

A warm welcome to the Macmillan Online Prostate Cancer group, I am Brian on of the Community Champions here on the Community, and yes I have Prostate cancer.

I wish you well with your biopsy - let's hope it's nothing, but to help you here's our guide to the Trans-Perineal Biopsy.

If you have any questions, however trivial feel free to ask them.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Hi Mace and Dedward

sorry to hear of your worries right now. You both obviously live in the same part of the country as me and a few others posting here who live in Rutland.

we found the diagnostic tests and the constant waiting for results the hardest part of the cancer journey. Once we knew the extent of the problem and the treatment plan we knew exactly what we were dealing with and felt as if we could take some sort of control of our lives again.

we did find this forum provided us with a lot of information and emotional support - more than was available locally from the nhs. we quickly learned that we had to be politely assertive with the NHS re getting timely appointments, test results, information and monitoring what was going on in the bureaucracy of the NHS.

i hope all goes well for you both and that your worst fears are unfounded.

  • Hi  sorry to hear you are having a biopsy but try not to overthink the problem.  You have a very low PSA which is good.  DRE found something that turned out not to be anything, so you are in the same position as most blokes aged 57.  Luckily you have had an MRI which most blokes your age and PSA won’t have had, so you are ahead of the game.  If the biopsy does confirm PCa (which is by no means certain) then remember this cancer is very slow growing.  I understand that most men die with prostate cancer rather than of it.  When you get the biopsy results and if it is PCa we can talk you through all the options, most of which are curative.  Even us with aggressive non curable are surviving much longer these days (I am over 7 years since diagnosis) and still don’t plan to see my maker yet!  Best wishes David

  • Hi, just a quick question, roughly how long does it take to get a date for a biopsy after the consultant requests on the cancer pathway? Mine was requested late last week to be done at Stamford, Lincs.

  • Hello

The pathway is 62 days. 14 days maximum for referral from GP to Consultant and then 48 days to start of treatment.

It all depends on the hospital - you could always contact urology there, see if they have a date and you can tell them you are available to take any cancellations (they have plenty).

    Best wishes - Brian.
