Biopsy 29/8/2024 - 10 pot of 20 cores were cancer. T2a N0 M0.

The 10 cores sll in left side of prostate.

I was diagnosed 30/9/2024 Gleason 6

Currently on AS.

Last PSA was 6.6 14/6/2024

I had a PSA yesterday 25/11/2024 and got the result today. PSA is now 8.0.

This seems like a big jump.

Do I stay on AS or get radical treatment.

I have an appointment with the Cancer Nurse on Monday 02/12/2024:

  • Hi Andy

Just to give u my figures for comparison.

Diagnosed 2013, similar stats to you.

PSA about 4, went on AS for 4 years and in that time PSA went up to about 13 so on average of about 2  a year.

So your jump of about  1.6  over  5 months does seem a bit high but u probably need a further check in a few months in case a blip.

The other thing to check is tumour size, mine went from 3mm to 13 mm over the 4 year period.

So u need a MRI check at least yearly.

Probably once PSA goes  10+ maybe consider treatment although check on what MRI shows

    Best wishes

    Steve

  • Hello

It's a very personal choice but:-

    * Your PSA is rising, therefore something is going on.

    * Your PSA isn't going down - it will continue to rise so treatment is better sooner than later. You can cope with treatment better the younger and fitter you are.

    * An MRI scan will give you a better idea of the actual situation.

Here's our guide to work out what to ask on 2 December 2024:

I hope this helps - Feel free if you want to ask us anything else.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Hi Andy

Your PSA may have risen because of your biopsy causing trauma.

I had a 38 core template biopsy in 2017. Before the biopsy my PSA was 3.4. After the biopsy it was 9.1. I panicked and almost had surgery. However, I didn't and after 6 months my PSA dropped sharply to almost where it was before.
