PSA Worries

Hi Everyone.

It has been a while since I posted and we have been settling into the new “normal” for us: treatments, appointments etc, etc…..

My question is this: although my husband has been on HT since the day of diagnosis and has had 6 rounds of chemo, his PSA hasn’t come down as much as I had expected from everything we have been reading. It started out at about 120 and has come down to 20 over the 6 months, but shouldn’t we be expecting it to be lower by now and given all the treatment? It seems that all the other stories I read, everyone’s PSA drops dramatically and to less than 1: I’m really worried.

He is due another scan next week and we have a follow up appointment with the Consultant the week after but I’m really worried that things are not where I thought they would be by now. The Consultant seems to be happy enough that the PSA is coming down but has anyone else had this experience?

Thank you as always for your support.

  • Hi  .

I know that we all want to be in the group who have the optimum reduction from the Triplet Therapy to an almost negligible PSA but there are other criteria that they will be looking at as well,  which is a more than 50% reduction in the PSA between what it was at the start of the chemotherapy and its value 84 days post completing chemotherapy. From then on they are looking at either a stabilisation or a continued reduction in PSA for as long as possible.

Stay positive and let us know how the scan goes.

    • Hi  , sorry that the treatment hasn’t brought the PSA lower, but I wasn’t sure when the last PSA reading was taken. It seemed like the HT produced an initial drop has he not had another since March?  I am not medical but understand that the chemo will keep working for a while and the HT will still be working, but as my oncologist keeps saying ‘plenty more tricks in the box’.  Good luck with your appointment, David

    Best wishes, David

Please remember that I am not medically trained and the above are my personal views.

  • Thank you for taking the time to reply. Will keep you updated after the scan
