Hi my name is Peter
I was having treatment for an overactive bladder with prostate blood test as part of treatment which came back at 7.7. I then had an ultrasound, GP said I had enlarged prostate but nothing of concern. Has MRI scan as part of pathway which has revealed lesions on prostate rated 4 and 5. Having a biopsy, no noted signs of other lesions throughout body. Notes 66.9% chance of prostate cancer and really worried and having bad anxiety and not sleeping, I have the constant peeing which I thought was my over active bladder no pain peeing small leaking and sometimes stop and start to finish,I've pretty much resigned myself to having prostate cancer and finding very tough to deal with like everyone with the horrible disease, any helpful advice would be much appreciated
Kind regards
Peter
Morning Brian
Thanks for the information sounds pretty straight forward, my problem is I retain up to 200 ml of urine, so it's a choice of a turp or wearing a catheter during the treatment and four weeks after, I have till the end of the week to decide.
Thanks again
Best wishes
Peter
Hi Gary
It's because I retain urine in my bladder I've had a overactive bladder for 25 years and it's only now because of the radiotherapy that the bladder has come to the for, I think the procedure is to trim the prostate.
Having a catheter during the 20 days radiotherapy and four weeks after or the prostate procedure are my only options, I wish there was something not invasive
Best wishes
Peter

Hi ladies and Gents
Just got back from my urology appointment, was told they recommend me using a do it yourself catheter which I'm not overly sure on as i wouldn't know if i need to drain before each days treatment or would it be better to have a catheter full time during treatment
I have a over active bladder and having the radiotherapy on a empty bladder and I retain urine after peeing,so couldn't have my planning scan as I retained 200 ml of urine ,never heard of the self catheter before and really don't want to go through doing it myself.

Hello Peter
I lived with an indwelling catheter for 10 months - and that was changed for me every 13 weeks. Pain free but required. Life was easy with it once I got used to it!
Here's a link to some information you may need
I have a friend who does it and says once you get use to it it's easy !!
Best wishes - Brian.

Hi Brian
Thanks Brian, I'm not overly confident of using the do it yourself catheter i have a urology nurse coming around on Friday to show how it's used which I'm dreading, I'm wondering during 4 weeks of radiotherapy would I be better off with a permanent catheter ?
Peter
Hello Peter
That's a question you could ask. Back in 2022/2023 I was told I needed the catheter out and the TURP operation before radiotherapy started BUT I have read of people having radiotherapy with an indwelling catheter so you would have to ask your RT team.
It's almost 3 years since my radiotherapy and things have improved.
Best wishes - Brian.
