Hi

I'm 2 yrs through a 3 Yr programme of prostrap injection following radiotherapy 16 months ago. I have locally advanced PC.

I have always had to get up a number of times during the night for a pee whilst having this treatment but more recently sometimes 8 to 10 times night.

I have been researching possible causes and type 2 diabetes is one of them and there is a connection between hormone treatment and type 2 diabetes.

Does anyone have any experience of this?

Obviously my main concern is to reduce the number of trips to the toilet during the night but wondered if this could be part of the issue.

Thank s

  • I've been type 2 diabetic for 30 years.
If you want to monitor your blood sugars to check if diabetes could be an issue you can get a free Libre 2 monitor from Abbot and it works for 15 days and will send the readings to an app on your phone.
You dont need to scan it unless it loses signal
If it ends up not being diabetes then at least you can cross that one off the list

  • Hi,

I've had a similar problem since having RT and in my case it was an overactive bladder. I'm in the process of doing bladder training and it managed to significantly improve my sleep. I posted about this at Bladder re-training

    Hope this helps.

  • Hi Brizzy,

It's no fun having to get up so many times during the night, as it seems that no sooner have you laid down & started to settle that the need for another pee starts again.

Have you spoken to you GP or specialist nurse about this to see if there's anything they can give you in the meantime such as Tamsulosin (this relaxes the relevant muscles & so helps you empty the bladder more fully & easily)?  A tip I was given was not to drink anything after around 6 or 7pm.

    Best Wishes

  • Thanks Brian

Yes, I take Tamsulin which helps a little and I have a flow test, bladder scan followed with a visit to the urologist so hoping they can help in some way
