Since completing my radiotherapy in March I've had issues with urine frequency. I would need to go to the toilet every 1-2 hours, which wasn't a problem during the day but was a real issue at night, as I never got more than 2 hours sleep. I've tried limiting fluid intake a few hours before going to bed, as well as avoiding alcohol and caffeine completely, that didn't help.
I've had bladder scans and flow tests, and they found that I empty sufficiently (though the flow is not great) but I feel the need to go when I have 100ml when a "normal" person would only feel the need at a much higher volume.
They then suggested bladder re-training which was a new concept for me. Basically, it means making my bladder realise that it can safely hold more volume without yelling for relief, so rather than going to the loo when I feel the need to go, I need to hold it until it becomes very uncomfortable, and then (if possible) measure the urine volume, which I do by weeing into a measurement jug and weighting it on kitchen scales which I bought for the toilet.
I've been doing this now for just over 2 months, and the results were really interesting. For the first month my avg volume was around 200ml with peaks of 300ml. the second months I was up to avg of 250ml and peaks of 400ml and last week I've had my first 500ml peak.
Sleep wise, in the first months there was no change at all, towards the end of the second month I started having the occasional night where I would sleep 3 hours (Which make a big difference from 2 hours) and this week I've had two nights of 3.5 hours sleep! The difference this makes to the fatigue and brain-fog is very significant.
I haven't seen any mention of this type of process on the forum, so thought I'd share my experience in case it helps anyone else struggling with the same issue.

Thank you for sharing this L1m . I am glad to hear that it is working for you and hope that you get to the stage of being able to sleep most of the night through. Macmillan have a little information on this as well so I have put the link in.
Hello L1m
A cracking post and thank you for taking the time to post it. I am so pleased that it's working for you.
I had an indwelling catheter for 10 months and after a TURP operation I was "released" back to my family. I started off having to toilet every half hour. I have been keeping up with the pelvic floor exercises and without thinking I have been following the bladder retraining plan. Almost 2 years after my TURP I am good now for 4/4.5 hours and I try and improve on that.
I must confess I do have the odd beer a couple of times a week and this ruins the good work for that night but even those nights are improving.
Once again excellent post - great information, thank you.
Best wishes - Brian.
