Olaparib and Abiraterone

I finally saw the consultant yesterday and they have recommended one dose of radiation to see if that can help with the hip pain that has developed

They said the scans didn't show any growth in the mets in the spine so it's something else causing the back pain.
Hopefully if the radiation helps with the hips I will be able to do some exercise that helps my back

They also said that due to the rising PSA level they were going to prescribe Olaparib and Abiraterone in addition to continuing with the 3 monthly Triptorelin injections

They gave me plenty of information on these drugs but I was wondering if anyone on here had experience of them and did they find they worked and what were the side effects like

Reading the notes - Olaparib can cause extreme tiredness - like I really need more of that ;-)

  • Hello  .

Good news that things in the spine are stable, plus you have a plan. I have attached a link to another thread which will then link you to a YouTube lecture on current treatment thinking for advanced prostate cancer. It does have a bit of PARP inhibitors but I also find the video useful to remind me of what is available and when it is used. I have also been reading that if you can add an ARPI like Abiraterone to the systemic treatments aimed at killing the cancer then this enhances the outcome. It also opens up a discussion about regular genetic testing via blood samples along with testosterone and PSA so that the heterogeneity of the cancer can be monitored in order to tailor future treatments. It is quite long so give yourself an hour.

I hope that the radiotherapy gets on top of your pain levels because I know how much you have suffered but you have the right attitude to maybe improve things with exercise when you are able.

There is a video specifically on PARP inhibitors which gives a little information on side effects.

  • Thanks for the info.
I'll have a look at the links later.  There's a lot to take in at the moment ;-)
