My husband has metastised prostate cancer(bones), his PSA in July was 0.36 a small rise from 0.08 but this month it has jumped to 5.2!!! Any thoughts/experiences
Hello Susielou56 .
This rise needs investigating and preferably with a PSMA PET CT scan which, with that PSA, is the best kind to identify what is causing the rise. I would also get the testosterone checked to ensure that the Prostap is still doing its job. My husband was on Enzalutamide and this worked well for about 18 months in controlling his lymph node mets. His next treatment was systemic with chemotherapy but he has also had a targeted radiotherapy to the mets. What will be recommended for your husband will be determined by where the mets are but be reassured that there are more treatments available for both now and in the future.
You don't state whether your husband is taking anything to protect the bones such as biphosphonates or denosumab, plus calcium and vitamin D, but they are often prescribed if men are put on HT.
Please come back with any questions and we will try and help.
Hi Susielou56.
Yes I have also got metastatic prostate cancer in my bones and have also had a rise in my PSA three times in a row.
I have had a number of scans (bone, ect) recently and I have also had RT to my right pelvis area where I was experiencing bone pain big time.
My consultant has also put me on some steroids to help with things. Both of the RT and steroids seem to have calmed things down thank goodness.
I will be meeting my consultant in 5wks time to go through the results of all of the scans so that we can make a plan going forward.
I do wish you both the best with everything & please please come back to me if there's anything else that I can help/support you with???

All the best for tomorrow's meeting but I would check about the scans and bone protection. Let us know how you get on. Lorraine BarryW has just posted a link on a different thread to an excellent video which you might like to watch on treatment for advanced prostate cancer. It is on page 11
Hi Susielou56
