I am trying to find information about the availability of this test either via the NHS or privately.

  • Good Afternoon

I am aware that there are many private PSA tests available (these can easily be found on a popular online sales site named after a South American River).

As you are over 50 you should have no issues in obtaining a free PSA test at your GP practice (I assume you are a UK resident).

May I ask why you are asking about this specific test? I am aware you have a Prostate Cancer diagnosis and should therefore be regularly tested.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Hello  .

This is an interesting test which has been developed in America which looks for 18 gene markers to better diagnose prostate cancer and give an indication of whether aggressive features are present. At the moment I cannot find if there are any laboratories in the UK who are working with the developers.

As an adjunct I was discussing having my husband's biopsy samples analysed with his oncologist last Friday and today have spoken to the laboratory who are going to do it - We live in Greece. They have informed me that they are looking for 32 different variables which will inform whether hubby may be eligible for certain treatments in the future - his issue is that he has a rare aggressive form and has had 3 recurrences in the last 4 years. If you are looking to have a gene test in the UK why not ask your doctor if this can be done from your initial biopsy sample so that you do not have to have any invasive treatment. I am sure that a private laboratory would also be able to do this if you give the NHS the authority to hand over your sample.

I am sorry to hear about the PTSD. My husband also suffers from this, but for a different reason. I can understand some of the issues this causes for you. We have to find coping strategies but he hates it when anyone invades his personal space. His PTSD was exacerbated when he was put onto HT but it is another thing that we have to manage with drugs.

I am sorry I can't help with your initial enquiry. Maybe another option is to contact the developers themselves and ask if there are any people who they work with in the UK.

  • I have found this NHS link which might help if you are looking to go down this route.
