Firmagon or Zoladex

Dad is 83 and has to start on ADT from Tomorrow. He has no known cardiac issues but we have a strong family history of cardiac disease. His dad and brother both passed from it He also gets ectopic beats/ pvc’s since many years but all cardiologists say those are benign and not to bother. His blood pressure is 115/70

I am conflicted whether to choose Firmagon or Eligard. Dr is ok with either. I want to go with Firmagon but I see some say they have very strong reactions with it and that makes me scared .

Any thoughts would be much appreciated . Also , does the Firmagon or Zoladex  affect blood pressure ?

  • Hello  .

None of us on the forum are medically trained to advise on this kind of issue and how a person reacts to the different implants/injections is very individual, but mostly well tolerated. I have attached a paper on the comparison between the two drugs in relation to cardiovascular events which might help.

My husband has been on the Leuprolide acetate for four years now and I monitor his blood pressure weekly. The main differences seem to be seasonal with lower levels in the summer compared to winter.

Please come back with any questions and we will try and help if we can.

    • Thank you.   Actually I wrote it wrongly as Eligard.  Doc had prescribed Zoladex which is also similar I think
  • i have been on zoladex for 5and half yrs in conjunction with abiraterone and prednisolone something is doing its job as i shouldn't be here !!!

those combined have slighty raised my blood pressure and also given me type 2 diabetes imo

zoladex is injected into ur abdomen every 3 months it doesn't bother me but some people have problems with the injection and the injection site
