Thanks Steve they said first 18 months they do more checks psa every 4 months 1year mri then 6monthly psa then 3 year mri .also
Hi Michael1963
Good luck with whatever path you choose. Treatment has side effects from ed to fatigue and hot flashes. If you can convince them to check you often with MRI that could be helpful and more accurate. It is a balancing act. As I said, for us PSA checks was not enough at all.
Good luck with everything and keep us posted. This community is amazing for support and knowledge.

Thanks dafna definitely couldn't wait 3year will speak to nurse when he is back from holiday.
Hi Robert was there anything in particular that made you decide to come off a.s
Hi Michael, I am also on AS but I had Gleason 3/4, I have been on AS for 2 years and have just had my one year follow up MRI which I paid for privately on the latest 3 Tesla machine, I get the results next week. I had 3 monthly PSA for the first year and they have been around 4.2 which for my age and prostate size is pretty normal. For my it is a decision about QOL which I want to maintain for as long as possible. I have read a lot and I think there has been a lot of over treatment, when first diagnosed the surgeon who told me thought I should have a prostatectomy. I think each person needs to make a choice for themselves but should do so having done the research and understanding the risks, I wish you well
Thank you juddy still trying to get my head around it .just feel the earlier you get treatment less likely to spread or come back . Your figures still remain low like my own .my next p.s.a is August so would like to stay on a.s to see how that goes. Did they tell you size of tumour and would you not been due MRI scan with nhs
Hi Michael as others have said I think it’s up the individual and also trust in the consultant, plus my PSA was going up steadily from 4.8 to 6.5 I decided I wanted it treated as I was worrying that if left for too long then would eventually break out off the sack and I’m happy I’ve made the decision now as it’s a wait of my mind, take care Robert
My tumour was not visible on the MRI last year, let’s see next week how this years scan was. Also my biopsy results were very low, only found cancer in 30% of 1mm of of one of the 21 cores, all the rest were clear. So I am planning to stay on AS until PSA gets above 10 and then I will consider treatment
Thanks Robert totally understand your decision mines went up to 5.5 last p.s.a. would definitely want treatment myself if went up anymore
Still on A.s had a meeting with consultant my p.s.a had dropped to 3.7 she wants me to continue on active surveillance butt still finding it a bit stressful
