Well, that was quick. I chased the medical oncologist (Greek God) up this morning and he has had a pow wow with the radio oncologist, so I was told to speak to him as they both thought hubby was eligible for SBRT on the distant mets. Did this at lunchtime and was asked when we would like it done. Whenever we replied. Got a text at 17:30 to ask if we are available TOMORROW  at 15:50 for the planning scan and can we take the PSMA PET scan disc. So all set for treatment starting next week. Having to sort out an apartment near the hospital for a couple of weeks as he predicts it will be 5 sessions on alternate week days.

  • Did I see the word Ouzu??

If I need any more treatment, it'll be "Greece here I come!!!"

He wasn't supposed to drink the full bottle!!

Can't wait to hear how it goes.  What, no full bladder!!!  There might be a long list of men coming to Greece.

The hardest thing at the end of a month's Radiotherapy was trying to keep the bladder full for the treatment.

There were loads of men walking around very strangely. After a couple of weeks Radiotherapy I knew why!

20 minutes a session! Wow!!  Not surprised he's getting anxious.

    ...Now where's that Ouzo????

  • Hi Steve,

Ha ha, thank you for making me lough out loud

    Love

  • Will let you know tomorrow whether the bed moves as well as the arms going around. It kept being stressed that he is not to move at all because it is very targeted radiotherapy at a high dose, even breathing must be shallow because it is the midriff area where the problem is, and difficult to get at.

  • Thanks for making us laugh Steve - hubby had a real meltdown yesterday evening but has calmed down today.

He had to have a full bladder, but no enema, when he had his 33 sessions of EBRT to the prostate area. This lot of SBRT is higher up in the stomach/pancreas area. It is a technique that they are now saying may be possible for isolated recurrent spots in the prostate area even if you have already had radiotherapy before.

  • I remember when I had my Radiotherapy, I was pushed and prodded until I was where they wanted me.  Not to move a muscle!!! Allegedly!!

A couple of times I got an involuntary twitch in one of my legs.  I kept getting shouted at "Stop moving!!"

    What was I to do?

I think everyone is very interested in this SBRT process.  Especially if there's a possibility of Ouzo!...or not!.

Seriously though, hope it all goes well tomorrow.

  • AH -  my best wishes for a successful treatment tomorrow- Good luck!  AW

  • Hi AH,  good luck for tomorrow.  Fingers crossed. David

    Best wishes, David

Please remember that I am not medically trained and the above are my personal views.

  • This time tomorrow the first session will be over & it will all seem less daunting.  Sending you a big hug

  • Hi Alwayshope. best wishes for hobby's treatment

  • First session is over. Glad we are staying close to the hospital as no way would hubby be able to cope with the 4 hour journey. We were warned that he might vomit Nauseated face . Just made it back to the 'holiday home' and he is rushing between the bed and the loo, and feels rotten. Apparently they are zapping 10 lymph nodes. Radio oncologist is still optimistic so we just have to trust their expertise.
