Well, that was quick. I chased the medical oncologist (Greek God) up this morning and he has had a pow wow with the radio oncologist, so I was told to speak to him as they both thought hubby was eligible for SBRT on the distant mets. Did this at lunchtime and was asked when we would like it done. Whenever we replied. Got a text at 17:30 to ask if we are available TOMORROW at 15:50 for the planning scan and can we take the PSMA PET scan disc. So all set for treatment starting next week. Having to sort out an apartment near the hospital for a couple of weeks as he predicts it will be 5 sessions on alternate week days.
Hi David. Yes alcohol is banned during the 16 hours because it is carbohydrate. I have chosen 1 naughty day which is considered fairly severe so there is nothing to stop you from having 2 or 3 naughty days a week, but the possible weight loss would be slower. The aim is not necessarily to lose weight but more to get the body back in balance so that it produces the right amount of insulin to deal with the carbohydrates that you do consume. By my understanding the insulin switch starts to happen at about the 12 hour mark so between 12 and 16 hours you are more likely to burn fat than muscle. The advantage of this system is that you can eat and drink pretty normally, within reason, so you are more likely to be able to stick with it as long as your calorie intake doesn't exceed your requirements. Dr Michael Moseley has a similar concept with the 5:2 eating plan whereby you eat a healthy diet for 5 days and restrict your calorie intake to 800 a day on 2 non consecutive days.
Latest update from upper and lower abdomen MRI's and the news is good. The EBRT carried out 4 years ago to the whole of the pelvic area continues to show that it did it's job and everything is stable there. Now the really good news - thanks to the SBRT there is SIGNIFICANT reduction in the mets area which has been causing a problem since initial diagnosis, plus 2 of the additional lymph nodes involved show a reduction, but the other 7 seem to have gone, as have the areas on the adrenal glands. There is no evidence of any lymphodoema and no evidence of any additional problems in the abdomen. Just got to wait for the chest CT results to come through to check whether there is any spread in that area but this was just a maintenance scan. Hubby is on a high as the results are good but also the intensive work being done by the osteopath, plus the massage gun work I have been giving him along with the resistance band work he has done, has made a noticeable difference to his mobility and stamina levels allowing us to reduce pain killers. The only thing we have to deal with at the moment is very loose bowels since having the SBRT which seems to flare up every so often so we are trying to identify the triggers.
GREAT NEWS
That's fantastic news and I am so pleased for both of you. Time to celebrate today with an extra Ice Cream and perhaps something a little stronger.
I may well participate myself later.
Best wishes - Brian.

That's one I was keeping quiet along with the fact that I am off to Turkey on 13 October for some well earned sunshine (and the odd EFES).
Yes I will have a drink to celebrate tonight. .
Best wishes - Brian.
