I'm due to have mine removed soon and would appreciate any feedback with regards as to what to expect in the immediate aftermath and on from there.  Are there any particular incontinence products that anyone would recommend or useful advice generally.  How soon is it safe to be venturing out into the world?

Thanks

BM

  • I found incontinence choice to be good especially their night pants

  • many thanks, i will take a look :)

  • My husband had this in December.  We didn’t want to stock up too much, so bought a couple of different Tena products from the local chemist.  The hospital gave him three huge pads which he didn’t need after that first day.

Our first venture into the outside world was the tube journey home.  We had bought pants as well as pads, but didn’t need the pads and the chemist were happy for us to swap the unopened pack for a lower absorbency pad.

i have bought some pads from Incontinence Choice, but they charge postage so they are useful if you establish a long term pattern.  My husband has been lucky and only had issues if he’s been on a bit of a long night out.  Otherwise is now pretty much dry and pad free during the day and just uses one at night as a precaution.

Hope all goes well for you.

  • Thank you that sounds pretty reassuring. Fingers crossed that the pelvic floor exercises pay off !

  • I use NHS issue supplied by Abeena. You have to be referred by your gp.They are what they are basic pads but they are adequate for my needs.

  • Many thanks Big Col. Do you have to request these from you GP in the first instance?

    Cheers

  • Yes I got referred to the district nurse....continence team who assess your needs. They place your first 28 days order and I just use the automated order line. You even Wink get the special pants every 3rd delivery. Tena they ain't but they are free on NHS.

  • Thanks Big Col, that's great to know I'll certainly check it out

    Best regards BM

  • I have number 5 and 6(night pads)if your continence issues are severe you can get more absorbent numbers. So make sure  you get assessed

  • Catheter is now out which was quick simple painless process. A couple of rounds of bladder emptying to make sure that function was good which luckily it was. So next challenge is to see how I get on with pads and control whilst keep going the pelvic floors.  I've also bought some special night pants as that is where the main challenge will be. Also prescribed daily 5ml dose of Tadafinil for next 2 years! Next up is histology appointment with consultant in few weeks time. So here we go ...
