I notice that some people who are on the same journey as me have been prescribed Daralutamide with Chemo . Is this now a standard triple treatment for advanced PC that has spread and if you are on it was it prescribed by the Oncology team . I have yet to hear of my treatment with chemo from oncology and don’t have a meeting with them until 7th Feb so quite apprehensive about the delay.
Hi Skippy.
Bicalutamide is very often given as a first line of treatment given to prevent testosterone flare before having the Androgen Deprivation Therapy implant. It is a first generation antiandrogen. What can then happen is that you may be switched over to a second generation antiandrogen of which Darolutamide is one - the others being Enzalutamide, Abiraterone and Aptalutamide which have all demonstrated improved outcomes. If you are switched, and to which one will, in part, depend on where you live and to the recommendation of your oncologist, but definitely something you need to ask about when you see the oncologist in February. Any news on your liver MRI yet?
To be honest heard nothing and a bit afraid to ask I feel a bit in limbo at the moment between urology and oncology and a bit without support
Skippy we felt the same that we were lost in between urology and oncology but we also had the added complication of going from private to NHS. Once we landed with oncology it was the oncologist there who immediately but my hubbie on daralutamide and decapeptyl hormone injections plus chemo. Never feel afraid to chase or ask what is happening and sometimes a little chase helps quicken things up. Good luck
Thank you I will certainly speak to oncology about this when I see them. I feel very isolated even from my Gp at the moment who was due to put me in contact with a cancer nurse. Almost totally dependant on the online services of Macmillan at the moment and friends on this group.
Hi Skippy - If you contact your hospital PALS (Patient Advice and Liaison Service) tell them of your fears and issues in the lack of information and progress and it's causing you anxiety they should be able to sort you out.
Best wishes - Brian.
