Anyone had a very high reading with their PSA test ?
I've just had one done before Christmas and was told it was 300 by the consultant in the local Urology department
Anyone on the forum had a result as high as this ? and what was the outcome ?
I realise an MRI and some form of biopsy is in my future to complete my diagnosis before a decision for treatment but reading test results for a result of 50 turning into a 48% chance of cancer makes my reading look like a foregone conclusion but has anyone had anything different ?
Thanks for any personal input you can provide
Hi David
I went back to the surgery that did the caterax op, they did a check, I had bits floating about in my eye, so they did laser treatment on it, it cleared almost all the bits except one, I have like a spring right in the centre of my eye, I look up down side to side and it’s always where ever I look.
Ive worn glasses for short sight for years, my left eye Is slowly degrading and I suppose an operation will happen on that one soon, hey ho another thing in my life of downs and a few ups.
Stay safe
Jor
I was pre diabetic before 2019 and overweight but my last check up was normal, then 2 bouts of Covid and no check ups for 2 and a half years so when they did my check up in June 2022 when things went back to normal my blood sugars were high and I was a definite type 2 person, when I researched type 2 one of the indicators was bladder issues which I put the last 2 years down to but despite losing weightand getting my sugar levels under control my bladder issues had got worse that's when I was double teamed by the diabetic clinic and they tested my PSA and within 24 hrs was called back to the surgery and had the usual finger test and immediately referred to the Urology department just after New Year. The consultant did another finger exam and when I asked what my PSA result was she told me 300. They also did a bladder ultrasound and despite going to the toilet before they did it I was told I still retained a large quantity in my bladder around 200 ml I think. On the Web I did a check and knew there were 3 conditions but wondered why they went straight to the worst one and when I was told the high PSA result I can see why the Doctor and the Consultant went there. I really knew until an MRI and or a biopsy were done nothing would be confirmed and my question was just to see what others with a high reading had been told.
As some of the replies have stated which I'm grateful for everyone's input so far, its not a done deal my anxiety was higher because my mother died of a rare hip bone cancer and her brother with a leukemia related cancer both over 60 and under 70 so I'm in that zone right now. No one else as far as I know in my close family died other than those 2 in fact my mum's mum was 95 and all her brothers were in their 80's alcoholics, smoked unfiltered capstan and were miners so I've a mixed genetic history lol
Hope things go ok Claymore, Hopefully the MRI will be done soon , that should tell u most of what you. need to know.
Regards
Steve
Hi Claymore,
My partner had a reading of 115 in 2022 age 56, at the time it was tremendous shock. Since then he has had a lot of treatment and things are ticking over nicely with the help of meds. You are very brave to ask the question of what are other peoples experiences and it's important to say that everyone is different, there's no exact formula to the journey of prostate cancer and you may read things here that don't and won't apply to you. Eg. some people have a fast growing type in the mix and others have a very slow cancer and journey. Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers for men and one of the better cancers to have because as a rule it is slow growing, it is very receptive to treatments that will stop it in its tracks and hold things steady for years. As a rule any PSA over 100 is likely to indicate prostate cancer, so this is why you will have other tests to see if you do and at what level. The worst bit is the wait, but once you know whats happening you will then be treated. Meanwhile try to focus on things that can be helpful while you wait. If you are overweight (which most of us are) look at making changes to you diet and bring in more exercise into your day. Eat less red meat and processed foods as these both are known to be negative foods for prostate cancer. Lean more towards a Mediterranean diet if you can. Add some vitamins in, usually Vitamin D and Calcium are recommended by consultants. This is a very supportive forum so always reach out with any questions and keep us posted with your journey and treatments as this is also very beneficial to people that have been here for a long time as they can learn about new things.
Here is a link to a great youtube video that explains the different levels better. You must be careful about some of the things you read or watch, and it is better to stick to known sources like Prostate Cancer UK/ Macmillan to get your information. But there are several people here that watch MarkScholzMD and they are very informative and I find them extremely helpful in understand PC. It is American so the treatments may be a bit different, but the information is very good.
