Hi Folks,
Hoping you’re all doing okay.
I’m two weeks into HT treatment with BICALUTAMIDE 50mg, had my first PROSTAP 3 injection on Tuesday but now have serious problems with going to the loo (no.1 & no.2). Basically I can’t or struggle pretty much all the time with some diarrhoea thrown in for confusion and with this constant urge to go and being kept busy all day and awake at night. Last night was a bad one.
So, I went very early to the walk-in clinic without appointment today and was first in the queue, holding it in and praying I’d get to be seen soon. Just as well, there were so many people after me.
I got a helpful nurse, did another urine sample, flow test and blood tests and an ultrasound scan. The doctor (junior I think) who eventually saw me was quite thorough and told me that they were sending the urine sample for further tests to double check and asked many many Qs, showed me my prostate and it’s size on screen, said it didn’t appear too large and examined my stomach, double mesh hernia and also internally. All seemed okay he said but there was still the serious problem which I came there for. Why? And what to do about it?
Summing up, he was taken aback when he found out I hadn’t been given any meds to accompany HT plus injections and so prescribed me Lactulose 15 mls x2 daily; Tamsulosin 400 mags x1 daily and Mirabegron (Betmiga) 50 mg x1 daily. He said he’ll phone me if the urine results are negative to prescribe antibiotics as there’s still a chance there’s a urinary infection. So hoping and praying these meds do the trick!
Hoping you’re all doing as well as can be expected and and feedback or comments is welcome. Thanks
Hello longtom . A warm welcome to the Online Community - I think you have posted before but this is my first reply to you.
Many thanks for filling in your profile details, you have a few complications and I would suggest the problems of the diarrhea and the Number 2's being your pre-existing conditions. The urination issues could have been cause by the start of HT. (Don't forget I am not a medical professional!). I hope your urine sample has come back OK and the new medication has sorted you out.
Talking of medication - as you have started HT - ask your GP to prescribe Calcium and Vitamin D tablets as the hormone therapy can weaken your bone structure.
i wish you well on your Prostate Cancer journey.
Best wishes - Brian.
