Hi all my PSA as started to rise. I've been on AS for two years now and in that time it's mainly been in the 5 marker, up untill now. My PSA in the last year as gone from 5.14 jan2023 to 6.01to now November 7.01for me it's working that it's gone up that much,, but my nurse said she's not worried by this. I have a MRI next month then see my consultant in January
Main thing is to get it checked. My PSA was 6.9 and I was diagnosed with locally advanced T2c N0 M0 Gleason 8 cancer in April. I had previously negative biopsies in 2020. PSA is a pretty rough indicator of disease but if its on an upward trend then get things checked out ASAP. Mine followed a similar trend to yours but I think statistically I was unusual in the progression of the cancer in a relatively short time. Best of luck and hope all goes well. Rob
In one nationwide population-based study, metastatic prostate cancer could not be ruled in with sufficient accuracy by any combination of T stage, Gleason grade and PSA. The best PSA cut-off for predicting metastases was 500 ng/mL. However, even for this very high cut-off risk of metastases ranged from 50–94% dependent on T stage and Gleason grade. The study results emphasize the importance of bone imaging in men with advanced prostate cancer for correct staging as a basis for optimal treatment selection.
PSA is not always right, and unless new methods are discovered, there are always risk of false results.
