I just wanted to come on here and let you all know that our wonderful Dad passed away peacefully at home on the 5th of October, aged 69, after being diagnosed in July this year.

it's difficult to find words at the moment so I will share with you what one of my sister wrote:

'We as a family wanted to let you all know that our Dad, D passed away peacefully yesterday at 3pm. He died at home with my Mum, myself, D Jnr, L, A by his side. He received a diagnosis of advanced prostate cancer in July this year and fought so hard against a rare and aggressive version of the disease. He was so brave and I am so proud to call him my dad.

Dad was such a big character and so full of life it’s hard to comprehend a world where he no longer is. I really can’t put into words what an amazing dad he was and how much we love him. He inspired us to work hard, ask big questions about the universe and to always see the funny side of things. He told me a few weeks ago that love transendes time and space and I know will feel his love and presence for the rest of my life. Thank you for everything dad x'
I should say that Dad was one of the unlucky 2% and his cancer was neuroendocrine with small cell elements and unfortunately had spread to his liver.
thanks again for all the support you have given me on here.
  • I am so sorry to hear your sad news.  I lost my Dad in April after an 18-month battle with advanced prostate cancer.  It may not bring you any solace but I wish we had found out the type of cancer my Dad had as it feels so unfair that he was one of the unlucky few not to survive the disease.  I am learning to live without my Dad but each day is a challenge but we have amazing memories and he will always be my Dad.  Take care and look after yourself and the family. xx

  • Hi purpletree, i am sending you my best wishes, with tears running down my face. i lost my mum 2006 20 weeks after a lung cancer diagnosis, gave up work to care for her at home, i always loved my mum and she was my best friend all my life but i think we grew even closer over those final months. i will always miss my mum. You were very lucky to have had such a wonderful dad, and a great family to support each other, as someone who has lost both mum and dad i  understand what you  must be going through. but remember all the good times, what he taught you. do not be surprised if in years to come tears run down your face when something reminds you of your dad. I wish you well but i am certain you and you wonderful family will by fine
