Decision made. I’m pT3a, N0 M0 (see my profile for details ). My extensive research points to a combo treatment of HT / RT / Brachy (NHS and NICE approved). MDT met again a couple of days ago and their recommendation (without my input) was the same. I had a consultation at Addenbrookes yesterday with a top prostatectomy surgeon and he agreed with me that my decision was the best one, as surgery would carry at least a 30% chance of recurrence. So I collected my prescription on way out! I took my first bicalutamide tablet taken this morning…..so the treatment is underway. Just over 62 days (NHS target) since GP referral so well done to them after a thorough diagnosis. I feel like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders with regards to timelines (chasing the NHS, politely!), but I’m under no illusion that the next few months of treatment will present challenges. My wife and I are a strong team and we intend to take everything in our stride and, hopefully, this curative pathway will prevail. Here we go…..wish us luck!
Hi Jonnymac22 .
Statins are usually prescribed if your bloods show a high level of bad cholesterol which can narrow the arteries and make you more prone to heart problems or a stroke. There are several different types and sometimes it is trial and error to find one that suits you. They are normally well tolerated and would not affect treatments like Brachytherapy but, like every drug, you need to let the doctors know that you are on it. I have attached an information sheet which tells you what side effects to be aware of. If they make you feel unwell or if you struggle to do your normal things then this needs to be reported and possibly another one tried.
I really do hope that you have your Brachytherapy soon with no more delays.
Forgot the link.
Hi Jonnymac22 just in case Alwayshope can't find the attachment, here's the NHS list of side effects.

Had my telephone meeting with the Hospital honchos today. Initial findings appear to be very good. No present bowel or bladder problems. NO further HT injections, just PSA to be done every 3 months for a year or so. Believe everything is fine, unless PSA show different. Good Luck everybody, onwards and upwards.
Had my telephone meeting with the hospital honchos today: Things appear to be very good. No bowel or bladder problems.Hot flushes continue, but, should start to falter in next 3 to 6 months. NO further HT,just PSA every 3 months for a year or so. Then we will know the results properly. Good Luck everybody, onwards and upwards.

I’ve put this on another thread, in reply to a question, but I’ve copied it here for completeness of my original thread:
9 weeks since my radiotherapy ended and I feel great. GI (occasional wind & the odd rumble, but motions normal - once in the morning) and GU (up once or twice in the night but no urgency - just comfort and to aid a longer sleep - averaging 8 hours) side effects are minimal and do not affect my quality of life. No blood showing or any sign of radiation proctitis- so fingers crossed, but it’s early days. Staying on HT (decapeptyl) for now. I’ve done 7 months so far and my consultant and I will review things in October. I think I will aim to stop after 18 months, just to make it very difficult if there an any micromets outside the pelvic area to survive.
Mrs AW and I are recommencing our mountain guiding job - 2 weeks in Menorca. We’re booked to lead there, and then we have Bavaria, Austria , Dolomites and Slovenia lined up till September. Can’t wait to get back to it. AW
