Hi, I’m seeking a bit of advice and insight…In March this year I was diagnosed with Prostate cancer at 48, I had Prostatectomy op in May.
Initial PSA test post op was 0.006, now 3 months later, a jump to 0.024, so a three fold increase.
What did other members PSA numbers look like shortly after surgery?
I appreciate it’s early days and more tests are required over coming months to build a better picture.

My husbands first post op PSA was 0.01 and he's been told he won't need any further treatment unless it rises above 0.2. He had his surgery in June and got his results last Monday for the test done on 16th August. His next test is due in November.
I can't understand why you have had 2 tests already as the first one is supposed to be done 6 to 8 weeks after surgery. It seems a bit early for your second one which I would have thought would be due in October. Unless of course there is a reason for this.
Also there can be other reasons for a rise in PSA that are not related to cancer eg vigorous exercise. My husband took it very easy for a couple of days before his test to prevent any false level.
Be that as it may , at 4 months post op the psa should be undetectable ( the number should be preceded by a ‘<‘ ) so yes , it is slightly concerning , and I don’t think that there is any alternative but to wait and see what the next one is . What were your numbers (Gleason ,Tnm ) before surgery ?
May need further treatment to complete the cure .
best wishes , Bill
My husband was gleason 3+4=7. T3a N0 M0 Pyrad 5. Husband biopsy was 16 of the 24 cores taken had cancer cells. His PSA before diagnosis was 6.94.
The cancer had started to break through the prostate capsule, so was locally advanced.
I hope that yours starts to reduce, but there are options to deal with this should it be necessary. We are all facing a future of living from one PSA test to another and it sucks.
As others have already said on here most men die with Prostate Cancer and not because of it, so we have to try to remain positive.
October 2019, PSA 7.7
November 2019, PSA 9.7
July 2020, Prostatectomy
August 2020 PSA <0.01
November 2020 PSA 0,007
December 2020 PSA 0.009
February 2021 PSA 0,24
HT & RT prescribed.
April 2023 PSA ,0.00
as far as one can tell it is sorted.
The PSA can rise (and fall) after surgery. Stick with it. the treatment is not funny at times

Hi Roger, Thanks for your reply,
My next 3 monthly PSA test will be in November, so should know for sure if numbers are rising?!
My jump from 0.006 to 0.024 has got me concerned for sure.
I see from your numbers, they intervened at 0.024 with HT & RT and didn’t wait for further rise, did they contact you and ask you to come in for chat about what’s next?
Thanks,
N
Hi N,
After the reading in December 2020 came through at 0.09 I had a consultation with my main man in early February.
He had no hesitation to go for HT & RT. I asked for another PSA test as I was aware that it could go down.
So 3 months after the 0.09 to went up to 0.24 oops!. So the consultant was right.
We have to trust the medics. They see this day in day out.
Stay strong.
Roger
