I had a 24 needle transperineal prostate biopsy on 4/9/23 (am). I was told to expect blood in the urine that should get better over a few days. I still have blood (red) at the start of each urination (and the end few drips) and the urine is rose to red in the bowl every time. How long should this last? (My other friends who have had this procedure said they only had light bleeding for 2-3 days). The information i was given says go to A and E if you have “persistent bleeding”, but i am unsure how that would be defined? Note they is no post biospy contact number etc that i can phone to ask in my information that i was provided. Does this fit with a normal experience of others? Getting slighlty anxious but would rather not spend 8 hours in A and E if this is normal.
Hi Isoxazole - Welcome to the forum.
Honest opinion and I have no medical skills - either ring your CNS or the Urology department who did the biopsy and check with them otherwise I am sorry but as it's now 7/09 and afternoon - I think you would be best off at A & E.
I hope this helps - keep us posted as to how you get on.
Best wishes - Brian.

Hi , an extension to Brian's reply - you could also try NHS111 for advice?
Thanks Brian. I got through to the CNS and they advised that as long as i do not have a fever/infection (which i don’t) then it would be best to wait/watch until Monday. If there is no improvement by Monday (1 week from procedure) to ring again and they will take it from there.
Thanks. I got through to 111 just as the hospital CNS called me back! (See reply to Brian for outcome)
Thanks for the info.
I have experienced transrectal biopsies many years ago. Not pleasant.
My biopsy is about 6-8 weeks away because of waiting lists. 95% of them are still transrectal. I have requested transperineal but there is no guarantee I can receive one.
Good to see the PCa was contained.

Transperineal is the new way to go.Believe less chance of infections. It was really only the anaesthetic jab that i felt, tthe biopsy itself 22/24 twangs like an elastic band noise. The nurse asked me how I was 2/3rds of the way through,I replied no problem. Her reply was " you will feel a couple soon' ,so i guess thats standard, depending on what part they are taking it from. Good Luck, ive just stated tablets for HT,injections instead next month.Radiotheraphy, sometime in New Year.Anything else, dont hesitate to contact me< I always try to be as honest as one can.
