Hi

I have asked  this question before but did not get an answer.

Has anyone been through the 5 day radiotherapy program and if so what were your experiences and symptoms afterwards?

Kind Regards

Gary

  • Gary

This  5 day scheme is quite new so u may not find someone on here.

I have read good things about it though.

  • Hi Gary,

As Seamus says, I'm due to start my course of 5 treatments on the 13th, so not long to go now & will be updating the post with how it all goes.  I will also add details to my personal journey which can be read by clicking on my coffee cup icon.

    All the best,

    Brian

  • Best laid plans go awry & I won't be able to let you know anything about the 5 session process I'm sorry to say.

Only 2 days to go & when the hospital rang this morning &  it was actually my consultant on the phone to advise that they had reviewed  the planning scans & found that my bowel lies too close for them to proceed with SABR RT as there is a high risk of the bowel being perforated by the higher dosage.  She was most apologetic for the lateness of reviewing the scans & realised what disappointment it would be.  Instead, I will have to have the more normal 20 sessions over 4 weeks, but this means the start of the treatment will be pushed back a week.  Just waiting now for an amended start date.  Must admit it knocked me for 6 & have felt out of sorts all day with very little appetite, but a long walk & then pizza & garlic bread for dinner (naughty I know) has put things into perspective.  It's still curable, but will just take a little longer with a lot less risk of complications.
