My husband had his first post surgery PSA test on 16th August and we've been on edge since wondering how long we would be kept waiting for the results of this and the histology.
This morning he got a letter for a telephone appointment on 4th September. We are both thinking that this is good news as they would need to see him in person if any further treatment is needed.
I would value any views on this, based on actual experience.
Hi GR1 Slightly off topic but as you live in England if you download the NHS App- ask your GP Surgery for full access, you will find out all your test results as soon as they are available.
On topic - I hope all goes well on 4 September 2023.
Best wishes
Brian.

We both have the app, but it only shows blood test results if they're initiated by the GP surgery. In my husband’s case although the blood was taken by the practice nurse it was initiated by the hospital using the form they issued, therefore the results will go there.
Nevertheless I have been checking everyday, just in case my assumption is wrong and the last blood test results on there are from May when my husband took the form issued by the GP to our local hospital to get it done quicker as he needed a renal function test before he could have his CT scan.
None of the letters from the hospital to the GP , that my husband was cc'd into have been added to his online record either. The last document on there is the GP referral for suspected urological cancer on 27th March.
Yes, I have had to chase my GP Practice a number of times.
I am under 3 different Hospitals with different governance, one of them (Manchester University Trust) has it's own App which makes the NHS app look like a child's toy in comparison!

Hi GR1
All of my follow up appointments have been by phone. With Covid hitting the world just after the end of my RT, I kind of assumed this was the new normal. It hasn't occurred to me they would call me in. Although, to be honest, if they did, I think I would be a little concerned.
Fingers crossed, your appointment is as good as mine have been, so far.
Regards
Stuart
Thank you.
I was expecting future appointments to be by phone, but the first one post surgery is to be given the results of the tissue analysis and PSA. We would have expected a face to face if anything sinister was found in the tissue analysis or of the PSA was still detectable, so that further treatment options could be agreed. That is our hope anyway.
Hello GR 1
I don't think the fact that your husband's appointment signifies anything about clinical results. We have had good and bad news relayed to us over the phone.it is now NHS policy to move to telephone consultations but patients stillare supposed to be able to choose, I think?
Re blood results requested by hospitals not being visible on NH S app - this is really annoying! We circumvented this for quite some time by writing ‘ please copy results to GP, on the blood form. However that seems to have failed the last 2-3 times. Last week my husband asked the surgery nurse to split the sample 1 to go off with the hospital form and 1 to go on surgery form. This worked but, of course, doubles the cost to the NHS.
the 2019 NHS long term plan states that the aim is to use technology efficiently and give patients more control of their health and wellbeing. Empty words?
Oh well. We'll just stay positive and find out for ourselves on just over a weeks time.
Going forward if all appointments are by phone maybe he can get the tests without the hospital blood form.
I’m not sure for 2 reasons. Can the specialists see results requested by GP? If surgery requests tests do they have to pay out of their own pot of money and vice versa if hospitals request test?
They were able to see the blood tests done at GP surgery that he had in March (not PSA). They asked him to get another blood test to check his renal function before he had his CT scan and this was done at the local hospital using GP form
We only found out that they could see the results because he got a CT approach the day after the blood test and when he said they wouldn't have the results yet they said it's OK we will go with the March ones. The cancer support nurse also confirmed that the hospital can see the results.
