Hi my husband is currently on aberitrone and decepaptyl injections and hot flushes coming thick and fast.,around 10-12 a day.
I went and bought sage capsules Menoforce think they mainly recommended for women.
has anyone had experience of these or recommend any suitable ones that are effective. Xx

  • Hi

The doctors prescribed Provera for me, it does work.

    Stay safe

I took Sage capsules and Evening Primrose Oil both of which came from Holland and Barrett. I started with 275mg Sage and 1000mg EPO twice a day and gradually reduced that dose after about 18 months. Your GP might be willing to prescribe either Provera or Cyproterone Acetate, but be aware that the latter can cause an increase in your HbA1C leading to type 2 diabetes. I don't know if Provera has the same effect.

Some on here have had acupuncture for hot flushes and it seems to have worked for them.

I hope you find a solution that works for you.

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery and today is a gift.

  • Thank you joe and seamus.

the consultant had mentioned if bothersome he could prescribe estrogen but there was higher risk of blood clots so we willing to try herbal first.
he is coping with them but if anything can reduce them he will try.
just another learning and coping mechanism of this disease xx

  • Hi Skye45

I am with Seamus on this one - I swear by sage tablets from Holland and Barrett (other herbalists are no doubt available). They have done the trick for me although I think a tad expensive and I am aware they don't work for everyone.

I have enough pills for other ailments, saw the possible side effects of Provera and decided against them - it looks like they work for joeven above so that's a possibility.

You can even make him suffer and to quote Mrs Millibob and say "Now you know how I feel"JoyJoyJoy.

On a serious note I hope you get him sorted - they take some getting used to!

    Kind Regards

    Brian.

ha ha I am only 45 so not there yet but the mood swings and flushes he getting he dare not even comment on mine. Trying hardest not to bite Joy

  • I hope it works for him. I did read on another thread that he's got his RT planning scan tomorrow and starts RT at the end of this month.

Things are now moving in the right direction for you both now.

Speaking as a man who's been through RT he will be needing your support throughout the RT and afterwards - he might not think he does - but he will!!Stuck out tongue winking eyeStuck out tongue winking eye. It takes it out of you in the form of fatigue - even if you are fit as a butchers dog at the start.

Hope tomorrow goes well for you both and the RT goes ahead as planned.

    Best wishes

    Brian.

  • Aww yes been 110 percent behind him all the way from the beginning and will continue to do so. Even offered to help with his enema practice but he refrained JoyJoy. yeah he has pushed himself through the fatigue of the hormone treatment but I gave emphasised to him that this will be a whole new level with the radiotherapy. So he will have to take it easy and Joyst when he needs too. He calls me his PA as I have to sort out all prescriptions and appointments. Well I think he is referring to PERSONAL ASSISTANT and not his PAIN IN THE A** or possibly both Joy thank you yeah we just about there he will be glad to get it over with. We have booked to go away for 10 nights on 14th so fine chilled time before it kicks off. Xx

  • Enjoy the holiday - you  both deserve it with what you have been through!.

At least you are starting to see the light and can see where you are going and the pressure, worry and anxiety is lower - you are even joining in with the jokes - that's half the battle.Thumbsup

  • Thank you. Yes we have tried to get through it with jokes too but it has got tough at times and am sure there will be ups and downs as time goes on. Huge changes all round but manageable. Main thing is he here with us and fights it all the way. Xx

  • Don’t go with those!! I have Sage Leaf capsules, 200 for £20.99 and it’s currently buy 1 get other half price! From H&B. S
Take 2 after breakfast, 2 in evening after food and I’m just about clear now after a month on them.
So that’s around 6 months supply.
