We are seeing the doctor next week for results of pet scan. When we first saw him he talked about radiotherapy and possibly chemo. Is there a time span when radiotherapy will start and can you have this at the same time as chemo. We have a holiday booked in December and just wondering if I should cancel it, just worried husband won't feel well enough to go .
Sorry for keep asking questions but I feel so scared today, even more than I have recently
We have an annual travel insurance. I wanted to book at short notice and go away on holiday before the RT. The insurance company would not cover the cancer until RT completed. HTH
Hi Shar - I think you need to wait for the results next week and what plan of action you are to get before you decide on if you should cancel the holiday.
If it's a course of Chemo this will be given before RT starts. If you are just staying on HT then RT will be 3 to 6 months from the start of HT.
Prostate cancer is a journey full of appointments and waiting and I found we had to fit holidays in and between appointments, injections and treatments.
You will be in a better situation next week after you have your results and know your treatment plan.
Stay positive - it's normal to be scared but he's on the treatment journey and we are all here for you - don't worry about asking questions or even being online for support - we are here for you.
Best wishes
Brian.

Hi Shar- your situation resonates with ours. OH initially going for surgery but PET showed suspicious area on spine though still confined to prostate.
we had holiday booked for September- this was in January. Fast forward- OH is due 5th chemo next week then ? RT. We asked oncology about going away and for insurance he well be on HT so got cover as oncology said as only suspicion no need to declare as spread. I have all this on record should it be needed.
we had a quick get away before chemo and declared PC but wasn’t covered.
if chemo needed should start within 12 weeks of HT starting and in our case was 6 sessions every 3 weeks so 18 weeks.
not sure if this helps with planning and one thing learned from this disease is that it’s almost impossible to make long term plans.
it’s scary Shar but never be afraid to ask any questions. We are here for you lovely. Xx
We are very lucky with our travel insurance that runs out next February in that the company do not want to know of any new medical conditions until renewal. It states this when you ring there phone line and also in the terms and conditions booklet. We have always booked holidays way in advance and have 4 booked in 2024 and 1 booked for 2025. I doubt we will be doing that again for a long time. Today I just want to run away and hide and pretend none of this is happening. I have lost almost 2 stone in weight since 26 April when we first found out
Hi Shar - Prostate Cancer is a journey, you share it with your wife/partner and you rely on them - as a man - more than you realise. I admit if it wasn't for my wife and the members of this community I would have been in deep trouble.
The only people who understand it are those diagnosed with it, their partners and some medical professionals.
It took me a few months to fully comprehend, a) The diagnosis b) The treatment and c) It was curable. I am 18 months into my personal journey and after 3/4 months I had that "moment" when I realised I can and would win and things would ultimately get back to normal.
It's hard at first getting your head around everything and it appears to take ages for things to happen, but, you are on your journey and with successful treatment you will both get your life back together.
I know where your feelings are at present and I hope the above is of some comfort.
Best wishes
Brian.
