Hi
after yesterdays consultation husbands psa down to 5.83 and his testesterone levels at 1.1 after only 3.5 weeks from 1st injection.
they also checked his bloods before he starts on aberiterone and they said his potassium level low has anyone else had this problem with prostate cancer.
Hi Skye45
I'm sorry to hear about your husband's cancer diagnosis. I'm not able to answer your question but by responding to your post, it will place it back at the top where it may be seen by more members. Also, you could possibly enter low potassium into the search button at the top ( on green bar at the top - the magnifying glass) and that may help. Best wishes for your husband's treatment.

Hello Skye45,
Sorry you have to be posting on this forum on behalf of your husband, I hope he is doing well. Please have a look at my profile to get an idea where I am at the moment from this unwanted situation. I have been on Abiraterone + Prednisolone steroid since 28/4/2020 and my PSA has dropped to 0.1 from 19/6/2020 and is still at this level today. Over the last 3 years I have had low potassium levels on a few occasions which resulted in being prescribed Sando-K, it is the most horrible tasting potassium supplement ever. "Quick tip" it is a soluble tablet but if you add some of your favourite flavoured soluble squash concentrate it makes a huge difference in getting it down. Low potassium is just another side effect from treatment but I don't care, it is a small price to pay for a treatment that is currently working for me. If your husband does get prescribed medication to deal with low potassium, I'm sure he will take it in his stride. It only takes a few seconds to swallow it but it does make a difference.
Take care, Tom.
Hello Skye, my expertise is in working with people with high potassium levels. To deal with this, they were told to avoid food which increases the blood potassium level - bananas, potatoes, dried fruit etc ( do a Google). I am not clever enough to say whether or not this would help your husband but perhaps asking your doctors about diet would be a starting point?
Hi Skye455
Amazing results! I guess you are both really pleased and can see how effective the treatment is. My partners Psa held steady for a while after the initial drop, but then with the addition of Abiraterone it immediately went down to under one. He's doing well but had two problems flagged up on blood tests one being his liver reading was high and the other was low potassium. He is now the banana king, currently we have 16 bananna in a bowl and he is never far from either the loo or a bananna. It seems to have done the trick but I'm sure there's supplements that could be easier. Every time I leave the house there's a shout of, "Get some bananas while you're out.!"
My partner now has his Radiotherapy appointment for 12th of June, so that will be the next hurdle for you as well ?
All the best
