Hi folks,  I was wondering if you could put my mind at ease ... I had a biopsy at the end of January, at the follow up appointment with the doctor he said that it was time to take action, the cancer was still contained in my prostate but has started to grow. I have my appointment to discuss surgery a week tomorrow but I don't have my Oncology appointment till the 15th May .. is that a normal amount of time to wait .. I feel paranoid that it may spread in the meantime .. thanks

  • Hi

With all the strikes occurring, they move appointments about, I never complain as usually mine are brought foreward. Nothing to worry about if they’ve mentioned surgery already, I suppose they want to run through the procedure plus are you still willing to have the surgery.

    Stay safe

  • Thanks Joe, Yes, I think surgery is going to be the right way for me .. but I will have both appointments to see the options .. I was just worried that it seemed a long time from my biopsy to the Oncology appointment (5 months) and that something may happen in the meantime

  • I think May is ok Nick, I assume the stats are lowish and it's good that tumour contained.

If u knew tumour size and the fact that it was not on gland edge that would help put your mind at rest. The MRI report should tell you that

  • Thanks Grundo .. when you are laid in bed at night all sorts go through your mind !!!

  • Yes, I know that Def

    Good luck for May

  • We have been able to get appointments more quickly by letting each department know we are prepared to take short notice patient- cancelled appointments. I’m not sure but I think you don’t start hormone therapy before surgery? That stops the cancer growing and makes the prostate shrink in preparation for radiotherapy.
