Morning guys and gals,
I have just started taking Bicalutamide hormone tablets with a prostap injection to come before 4 weeks of daily targeted radiotherapy, my oncologist didn't actually put a time frame on how long it would be before the radiotherapy would start, any ideas how long on the HT before RT can start, the urology nurse has suggested 3-6 months, is the right?
My husband started bicalutamide on nov 3 rd 2022. Two weeks later he had his first injection ( decaceptyl) He started radiotherapy on 3 rd feb. He finishes the 20 sessions tomorrow. He should have finished today but the radiotherapy department was flooded last week due to a burst pipe and they had to cancel appointments.
Hth
I started RT about 6 months after starting HT. Mine was delayed somewhat as they had to remove my thyroid for a non-associated cancer that they picked up from my PSMA-PET scan. So 3-6 months is about the right timeframe. Certainly for me they were very flexible at slotting it in around other stuff I had going on at the time, including holidays already booked.
At the beginning it can be a scary journey with loads of information thrown at you. There's a great group of people with similar experiences on this forum that can help you through.
Stay strong, Steve
Hi,
Thanks for the reply and info, fingers crossed for a positive outcome for you and your hubby.
Hi Steve,
Thanks for the reply, so do you think you would definitely had your RT start before the 6 months if your thyroid issue hadn't arisen?
Your right the phone appointment with the oncologist was a bit full on with information and a time frame was probably the only thing i forgot to ask about.
Thank goodness for the support of this community.

Hi Lee - They are all correct RT is between 3 and 6 months after starting HT. Mine was delayed but then I had other issues. RT is a breeze but beware of the side effects catching you out and make sure you do as you are told by the Radiologists. You can view my journey through RT (and everything else) by clicking on the image of the beach. If you need to know anything else feel free to ask.
I hope all goes well for you.

Hi Lee,
I started HT in March and we discussed RT to probably start in Aug but it was delayed by operations for the thyroid cancer. It was then arranged for mid Sept but as it clashed with holiday plans it got put back to Oct. As I said before everyone was very flexible to make sure it worked round me, rather than a strict timetable.
Hope your treatment goes well, Steve
Hi Brian,
Since posting this morning I've had a call from the hospital and they are planning for my RT to start at the end of the month, less than a month after starting HT, they are going to double check with the oncologist but unless he specifically requests a delay they will go ahead with the end of March.

Hi Lee
That's quick, I am amazed. They will have to have you in before the RT starts to do your planning scan and give you your 3 tattoos. Good luck with both the HT and RT - there are side effects from both.
Brian.
