Worried about missed treatment

Hi everyone,

I posted in here at the start of the year when my dad was newly diagnosed with PC stage 3, still contained but gleason 9, no spread to lymph notes etc. He started the hormone tablets and was then meant to have 3 lots of hormone injections before he started radiotherapy. There was a communication cock up and my dad didn't realise that he had to arrange the hormone injection appointments himself, so he only ended up having 1 injection before the radiotherapy in the summer.

His consultant has now taken over all the appointment arrangements so that it doesn't happen again. My dad is now having a new lot of hormone injections every 12 weeks. Last one was in November, next one is January. He also has a review in January about how the treatment is going, and my mum and I are so worried that because he missed the 2 hormone injections at the start of the year, the radiotherapy wouldn't have been as effective!!

Can anyone shed some light on this and advise?

Thank you so much x

  • Hi

Its not the end of the world as regards hormone treatments, just think of it as starting fresh, nothing has changed, he has appointments being sorted for him, plus they will do referrals as to his condition.

Hormone treatment can be given with radiotherapy, so no problem there, from what you’ve wrote they have a handle on everything. It can be confusing starting off on this journey, fortunately I have my wife, who puts all my appointments in a calendar on my phone, also has charge of all my medication, if I was doing it, I would forget, so it’s easy for this to happen.

    Take care

    Joe

  • Thanks for your reply Joe :)

I think we are just worried because I read that the hormone injections help the radiotherapy to be more successful, so I don't know if missing 2 injections beforehand would make a big difference.

We will find out in January I guess!

    Thanks again
