PSA After Treatment

Hi all

5 years ago after being diagnosed  with PC, gleason 7  (4+3), I opted for radiotherapy.

My Nadir was 0.38, however, after coming off Bicalutamide (about 18 months) my PSA began to slowly rise until it reached 1.3, at this point my Onc said it was a biochemical reoccurrence and I went back onto Bicalutamide (150 mg daily) I remained on HT for about another 18 months until my PSA dropped back down to 0.4, at this time 9 months ago I again stopped taking HT and my last 3 monthly readings are 1.1, 1.4 and 1.4  and testosterone 16.

My treatment plan is if my PSA when my PSA  rises above 2, restart  HT and if it drops back down to 0.1 come off it.

Has anyone else had similar readings/treatment plan?

I am 63, I feel fit and well and my CT scan about 1 yr ago showed no sign of any cancer spread and all my other bloods are normal .

Any feedback would be appreciated

  • Hi Wez

Just my opinion   but I would give a bit more time. It must take the body some time to adjust after taking HT for so long.

think it's quite normal for PSA not not to go so low after Radiotherapy unlike with surgery. it's good that it's not going up at the moment ie last two tests the same at 1.4. Just fingers crossed that it stays around that figure, as has been said if it goes above 2 restart HT, lets hope not necessary.

Just for info I had RT 5 years ago without the HT. PSA 6 months after treatment 1.33 still went down after that albeit very slowly. I do worry that my next PSA could show an increase. Next one due soon.

    best wishes
