My husband who is 55 years old, has a PSA of 3.02 and an enlarged prostate with a nodule. He was referred to urology via the 2WW and has been given a telephone appointment with a consultant on Wednesday. Is it normal to have the first appointment over the phone? How can a consultant examine him without seeing him? I am worried that this isn't right and something will be missed.
Anyone else have their first consultant appointment over the phone?
Welcome to the Prostate Cancer forum. It doesn't make sense consultant appointments over the phone. As you said, how can they examine you without being there.
There do seem to be more and more appointments over the phone. I would try and push for a face to face appointment.
I see your husband's PSA levels are quite low, but you'd think, with an enlarged Prostate, the consultant would want to see your husband in person. There could be a plausible explanation.
Ring the hospital and explain your worries.
Good luck, hope it all goes well and you get a face to face appointment.

Hi
I agree with Steve unless there is a good reason I'm not sure how the consultant can accurately diagnose. As Steve has said a call to the hospital would be a good idea and might ease your mind.

Stuart
So it doesn't have to be cancer, could be benign.
A MRI is needed next, perhaps in this instance a telephone conversation is ok.
Ask about/push for the MRI as that should tell a lot more
