I have not read on this forum as yet with anyone much of a similar diagnosis as what I have been diagnosed. I guess my issue here is that I have BCRA gene issue which has allowed me to be on olaparib and feel I'm the 'only one' on this medication.
I have been on olaparib for over 1 and a half years and continues to keep me with a normal quality of life and keeps my PSA undetectable (despite sore feet issues i have recently posted about!). Im aware that it is only available in Scotland currently but there are clinical trials continuing in Endland/Wales. I was actually the first patient in NE Scotland to have been prescribed olaparib and have been informed it is the norm now for those who meet suitability for the drug.
If anyone else are on these meds it would be good to hear your experience with it.
Hi Donchadh
I'm not a member of this group but I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list where it'll be more easily seen.

Hi D
As u know Olaparib is a fairly new treatment for the more advanced prostate cancers. It's unlikely that someone will appear on here as it has not been widely available. I think that has now changed so hopefully can help more people.
I have read good info on this in the national press and it looks like you have done ok with this.
Long may it continue
Best wishes
Steve
Hiya,
Thanks for posting on your experience with Olaparib.
I am about to finish Chemo ( 4 x EC and 4 x Paclitaxel) fortnightly last one next week and will then go onto Olaparib for what I understand will be for a year.
I myself am TNBC with BRCA1 and wondered how you have tolerated the meds and if you were ever told how long you can stay on Olaparib. My concerns are 1 year doesn’t seem long enough with BRCA?
Hope you are doing well! X
Olaparib itself is very good. No idea though, when olaparib I had sore ankles and heels which didn't help with mobility. Apart from that suggested side effect I had no problems when on them it was like living a normal life
I never got told much about the timescale either bit it was said at the start that I should expect a year. Getting another half year was a bonus and used them until they stopped working. In all they were very good and although it's only a short time being on them I would take it
No probs at all and that's good you'll be taking it. If anything like my experience it's a huge break from cancer. Ive had my shot with it can just hope more treatments evovle over time. I just have stay on the chemo now and hope this keeps the cancer at bay for a time to come...Wish you all the best with it indeed.
