On Monday I'm due to have a multiparametric scan. It's not the actually scan procedures that concern me, but the fact that a telephone consultation four days later has been arranged. In truth I'm shocked that perhaps a unfavourable diagnosis is given to the patient over the phone. May I ask is this standard practice?
....S
Can't say if it's normal practice, but I have never had a face to face meeting with anyone from the oncologist department just phone calls, I am monitor by nurses at my local drop in centre they also supply my next 4 weeks tablets, GP gives me a 24 week decapeptyl injections, last person I had a face to face was with the urologists.

Hi
I've heard of a fair few who have had phone calls like you mentioned, not all hospitals do this, it’s a shame they give information this way, my wife dreads ever getting news this way. Fortunately we have three monthly appointments to check on my well-being, I hope all goes well, I’ve had many scans and usually have to wait a few weeks, just keep positive.
Stay safe

Hi Joe, it's a good 50 minutes to drive in very bad traffic, the hospital is no easy to get to, virtual a two hour drive for a 5 minutes meeting, I'd rather have the phone calls, I attended a outreach clinic for my checks and new meds, they are all experience cancer nurses, and will set time aside to chat private if you ask
I can see the point and convenience of a phone call. I was just thinking maybe in the context of getting an initial diagnosis a face to face would be better. I live alone and will be taking the call alone, alone I think is not good in these circumstances. ....S
The urologists, told me I had cancer and that it had spread, it was the phone call with the oncologist that confirm just how much the spread was, an appointment was made for me to go to the outreach clinic for future info plus meds, it was the head nurse who gave me the full facts and explained about the side effects, that was the point it finally sunk in.
My wife was with me, we held it together until we got home
