Hi all my lovely 56 year old husband has been diagnosed with stage 4 aggressive prostate cancer Gleason 5+5 , we knew it was not going to be great news with high psa and T3 feeling rectal examination but saw oncologist on Thursday for results of biopsy , mri and bone scan and are shell shocked and devastated to discover not only is his cancer an aggressive form of adeno carcinoma but it has left prostate into seminal vessels into bladder , gone into very many lymph nodes including a large one blocking blood flow to kidney but worst of all his bone scan showed very extensive bone mets - the scan lit up like a Xmas tree there’s not many areas not affected !
oncologist wants to do palliative chemo asap and has given him a choice between 6 rounds of docetaxol or chemo tablets , he is also on hormone therapy.
we are totally broken we have a young family , mortgage etc and now seems prognosis is not good , he needs ct scan to check if any spread to organs which is looking likely with all the lymph node involvement.
any advice would be greatly appreciated xx
Hi Suzygal,
I’m so very sorry to hear this sad news especially with your husband being so young. It’s the words you never want to hear. It’s such a terrible shock for both of you and your brain will be reeling.
I had very similar news for my husband in September 21 and he is still here with bone, lymph and lung mets. He has an aggressive ductal adenocarcinoma carcinoma and is doing really really well on Arbiterone and hormone injections. It is incurable but his treatment is working really well and his pain and energy levels are really good compared to before diagnosis.
My husband is older at 71yr and that’s why they didn’t offer him chemotherapy. I can’t imagine your feelings. It’s so unfair at any age but 56yrs is just not fair.
What I’m saying is that even at this stage there are life extending treatments available. I don’t want to give you false hope and I am not an oncologist but I’ve been in a situation where I thought we had weeks together… and we are coming up to a year now.
Sending you lots of love, my heart breaks for you and your family.
Louli x
My partner similar aggressive form but also castrate resistant mets to bone he's 59 , I totally understand like you we still have a morgage etc , he's on chemo a t m crossing fingers this will work , there's a ladies prostate site , very helpful and people in the ssme situation x
I was diagnosed in September 2021 with t4m1n1b gleason score 4+5 spread to lymph nodes and bladder and multiple bones and incurable at the age of 53 i was put on hormone therapy straight away and i since have had 6 rounds of chemo and now having once a week radiotherapy for 6 weeks and on zoledronic acid infusion every 4 weeks which will finish in November.
My life came to a stand still when I was told it has been a really tough 9 months,i have a very good wife and a really good support from the rest of my family which has helped on the numerous low days, since the chemo has finished and i have been rescanned there is no new growths and the zoledronic acid is helping my bones repair.
I have tried to keep working as a farmer and trying to keep being positive one thing i have learned is to share with people my diagnosis which has helped my brother as he has been diagnosed as well but his is early.
I can't fault the nhs who have got everything going really quickly and my doctor who i saw on the Friday and by the Monday i was having scans my thoughts are with you all and good luck hopefully like me you will have a good response to the treatment
Suzygal and Louli,
I don't think they have thought about making a Prostate forum for women.
I can see there are more and more wives and partners logging into the forum.
You are more than welcome to share the forum with us men. It's good to hear things from your prospective.
Personally, I think it is brilliant, I know that some men would never log into something like this.
If ever I can offer any advice (from my own experiences) I will gladly share.
Take care in the heat, it's a scorcher!!
