Hi, I'm considering which treatment to have.
T3n0m1 I've had hormone injection for 30days and just ad one today for 90days. I been looking at side effects...... I been wondering aboutt what's best for me?
I'm not sure I need my nuts any more? I've had kids. If having them removed gives better and more stable outcomes without the up and down of chemicals castration?????
Would any mind adding there honest thoughts and experiences,
Obviously we need do what's right fo us and I need consider all angles and avenues on offer???
Some studies indicate that LHRH therapy does not achieve as low of a testosterone level as orchiectomy
This might be one of the reasons why surgical castration had better outcomes for advanced prostate carcinoma, especially in the poor prognosis group. Another reason that might explain this difference is the sustainability of testosterone suppression. Bilateral orchiectomy would definitely cease the production of testosterone. Owing to different pharmacokinetics from person to person, the LHRH agonist might not be able to remain effective for one full month in every single person. Then, during readministration of the LHRH agonist, testosterone flares up and this causes so-called acute-on-chronic responses36. In our present study, antiandrogen was used in the medical castration group, but repeated flare-up episodes might also lead to a poor result
Hope this is ok guys. My practical thinking tells me remove testis, this will remove testororine produced there(not the renal gland)
This stops need of needle, injection, posible bodily responses to foreign visitors.
Sounds like a stable way of testosterone control, maybe body adjusts to this better than testosterone flare ups???
Really am thinking practically it sounds better??? I do understand the negative impact on mental side.
But, I'm told testis and penis shrink, I get an aiche in my testis now from the injection while I'm being slowly chemically castrated..
So is it really that much of an impact as my cancer is incurable?
Hi Troxly
I can't help with your questions but noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet so responding to you will 'bump' your post back to the top of the discussion list where hopefully it'll be seen by someone who can share their experiences with you.
Wishing you all the best with whatever you choose to do

Hi Troxly
Don't think you'll find many , if any, on here who have had that op, think not that common procedure.
Looking online I see some info about the fact that doesn't work so well once you have bone mets but I could be wrong.
To me it does seem quite drastic and I don't think it cures the cancer. I would do as much research as u can although I'm sure u have already.
Other thing u could do is look for a clinical trial, go to cancerresearchuk.org and look under clinical trials , some are good for stage 3/4 cancers in particular,
good luck and let us know how it goes
best wishes
Steve
Hi Troxly, that is quite a decision to make, I know you have read my profile, I was not offered any surgical option ,not sure I would have taken it.
If you decide the op will you get implants? But you are right about shrinkage upto 40%, which ever you choose has to be right for you and your family.
All the the best Ulls
