Hi all,
I’ve just had my last session of radiotherapy today.
In mid August I will have a blood test done then a week after that a telephone consultation will my consultant.
Still no face to face, I’ve actually only met her once and that was to sign the consent forms.
Hopefully I won’t get too many side effects but she said don’t be surprised if I do.
Those will be increased toilet visits day and night.
I’m glad that that part of the journey is over.

Tyler,
How many sessions did you have? I had 20 last year and it took a good 4 months to recover. Fatigue was the hardest to beat. My flow was reduced to a trickle, that was annoying as well as uncomfortable. Because of the Radiation my Prostate was squeezing my bladder.
Hope you don't have too many side effects (if any).

Hi Steve,
I had 37 sessions. They said make sure I stay hydrated but I suppose with the warmer weather you sweat more than pee.
I shall take it day by day starting with instead of drinking a pint of water first thing in the morning during my treatment I shall drop it down to half a pint. I was also told not to drink anything after 6.30pm but I shall start increasing this by 30 minutes a week until I find a happy medium.
I didn’t have too much fatigue during my treatment, I drove myself every day to the sessions.

Hi Tyler
The RT didn't cause me any problems at all, apart from fatigue, and diarrhoea when I ignored the diet sheet. But as I was also on HT, it was difficult to know which was causing my fatigue. I too drove every day but didn't move from the sofa when I got home - exercise was out of the question. For me, the HT was by far the worst part of the whole process.
I see that you are also on HT - how long have they indicated you will be on it? I was on it for 2 years - 2 years of struggling with my lack of stamina and fitness. Very frustrating. It sounds like that's not your experience - which is great.
Stuart
Hi Stuart,
I started HT in September last year and I was told that I would be on it for 3 years in total. I’m due my next dose in 2 weeks time
I suppose now my main problem will be motivation. During my RT I used to get to the hospital around 9. I then went to have breakfast in their restaurant. I then used to walk around the perimeter of the hospital for some exercise.
Now it’s well there’s no reason to do this it’s time to think of another reason to go out.
I do need to try and get fit again.

Tyler19 A great way to get motivated for exercise is to open a Just Giving page and pledge to walk some miles for a charity. Even better if it's a local one. I walked a double marathon in January for Prostate Cancer UK and have just started a 50 miles target for our local Hospice (15 miles already under the belt). It's a great way to get out and is also good for my HT induced type 2 Diabetes.
Most charities will be able to help you set up a donation page.
