Afternoon,

I had my appointment last week to discuss my treatment.

with the PSA rising ( PSA came down from 88 to 2.6, then back up to 4.9 even though testosterone level is down to 1 ) which they are concerned about so they are going to start me on abiraterone ( which they only give out to advanced PC patients ) which still has to be approved by NHS ?? ( should start them on 10th June.)

Then my radiotherapy should start 4/6 weeks time as im waiting for the dates.

They insert a gold seed in my prostate and the i have to get a further CT scan before it all starts.

Has anyone else been down this route ( or know about this option ) and share there experiences if that's okay.

Cheers

Grigor

  • Hi Grigor

Having the gold seeds inserted is no big deal, a bit uncomfortable perhaps but not as bad as a biopsy.

When u have had the seeds inserted RT can start a few weeks after which in itself doesn't cause any problems , possibly a few minor side effects.

Think I' m right in saying that T3b is still curable so hopefully the RT and HT will sort it

    Good be luck

  • Hi Grigor. If I remember correctly you are being treated at the Beatson in Glasgow. Gold seeds were standard when I was treated there in Feb/Mar 2019. You will have the seeds implanted (which is a very minor procedure) and then you will have a planning scan about two weeks later. Your RT sessions should start another two weeks later again. You will probably get some blood in your urine after the gold seeds are implanted but it shouldn't last very long. When I was treated they didn't give me (or any of our early morning walnut group of six) an enema but that may have changed now.

Good luck with your RT and make sure you do everything the radiologists ask especially drinking the right amount of water when you are told to. Their commonest complaint was men who hadn't drunk enough water by the time their treatment was due to start and had to be put back upsetting the whole schedule for the day. Also make sure you tell them if you have any problems at all and they will see that you get treatment for it.

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery and today is a gift.

  • Grigor,

I agree with Seamus talk to the radiologists. They say that you should drink 4 cups of water before your session but this is a minimum. I’m on day 11 of my treatment and I’m averaging about 7 cups before my bladder is full enough for treatment. On Monday I needed 10 cups before I was ready. Let them know if you are not full enough, you will know this as you’ll be wanting to rush to the toilet. Also let them know if you do need to go as they will try to get you in next. They would rather do this than you emptying your bladder and having to start all over again.

     I hope this helps.
