Hi I am 65 years old from Ni.Ireland I had a prostate biopsy done on 23rd March 2022. I was supposed to get my  results on the 13 th May.. This appointment was then cancelled until the 8th June . I actually know my results through my local GP. Results came back positive for Cancer..I don't know how severe it is ,but can I assume it's not too bad as my appointment has been delayed for another 4 weeks . I would appreciate if anyone can help. Thank you .

  • Kate, yesterday I was in a course about 'Living with and beyond Prostate Cancer'.  A 6 week course at my local Maggie's in Newcastle.

I'm learning so much. Yesterday was about Incontinence, so many things on the market to help however bad things get.  I was going 'Wow' (in my head).

I had these pads I got from the 'Incontinence clinic' a horse would be happy with.  They did the job though, no complaints there.

I could stick about a dozen together and make a Quilt.

I won't complain about any of my treatment.  The NHS we're spot on.

    I'm waffling again aren't l ?

Hi, I was diagnosed 12 months ago with Gleason score of 5+4, locally advanced (lymph nodes). Have been receiving Degarelix injection monthly, 1000mg Aberaterone daily for 10 months. 20 sessions of Radiothetapy completed end of March 2022.

I received a call from Cancer team nurse last week telling me that PSA was 0.01, liver function and enzyme levels normal and that all seemed well. Today I received paperwork to give to nurse for pre-chemo tests. No one had mentioned chemo and I won’t see oncologist till later next month. Does anyone know if this is normal procedure - not the procedure for making you aware of intended treatment, that’s always been a bit of a shambles - but chemo after radiotherapy?

    thanks

    Phil

  • Hi Phil

Your story is interesting, have a look at my posted review / update. Diagnosed with Gleeson 4+3 in 2018 with spread to my spine I commenced hormone therapy and soon after 6 sessions of Doxetaxel and then in 2019 Cabazitaxel and 2020 I believe Radium 223 ?. In 2021 my PSA started to rise again and commenced with Abiraterone with steroid Prednisilone, but PSA rose from mid 30's to 57 and steroid was substituted to Dexamethazone and for maybe 6 months now is stable in the mid 30's. I should like the PSA to fall but the oncology team say all other blood markers are fine and they believe the cancer cells are not dividing and thus my condition is stable. Aberaterone was not offered as a first line treatment to me, possibly because this is standard procedure if you live in England, but in Scotland it is.

Hope all goes well for you Phil.

    Kind regards

Hi Chris, thanks for responding to my post. I had just received news about Chemo so was a bit anxious.

it’s quite strange but my PSA has always been really low and I remember the oncologist telling me that they didn’t really understand why that was but that it didn’t matter as there was no doubt about my diagnosis. Also the urologist told me that I had only had cancer for about three months when diagnosed.

I read you original post and saw that you’re a regular hill walker, this has also been my favourite outdoor activity for years and even now I find that it lifts my spirits and clears my head. It’s been a challenging year and I don’t know how I would have coped without my wife who has helped to keep everything as normal as possible.

Best wishes for the future and I hope you continue to keep active.

  • Hi Steve no worries as my name is Pete . Have not been on site for over a week. Got a letter in to say I have a phone consultation on the 14th July. With consultant or nurse from Cancer Clinic at City hospital. As far as I know this is to take me through treatment and what to expect .I actually thought it would be a face to face consultation COVID was given as reason for  it..I might try contacting my GP to see if they have anymore information. Thanks for listening .  Pete.
