I have just been told that my biopsy result was “no malignant tumour found”. On the face of it this is welcome news. But I did ask why my PSA was 10 and was met with a few ums and ahs. Basically the GP could not tell me accept to say that it would be best to have another PSA test in 6 months times.
My question is why would the PSA be 10, why would the mri scan indicate “something needs checking” hence the biopsy? I’m still slightly worried
Hi
a low PSA such as yours, plus a clean biopsy is usually a good sign, many on here will tell you your PSA can go up and down due to an assortment of things, excersize, eating, what you drink all can do this, so I would not worry, if it’s something else it will be found, from your mri scan.
stay safe

Good news, I'm no expert, have just recently been diagnosed with low risk prostate cancer, I'm still learning and everything below is based on my experience, everyone is different
I read all the time that high psa doesn't mean prostate cancer, apparently it's not that a good indicator but we don't really have anything else and it caught it for me
5 or 6 years ago I had a slightly elevated PSA but it came down with a subsequent psa test, I then buried it until I went to doctor asking for another psa test this year, I do regret not being more active in getting more tests because there is prostate cancer in my immediate family which elevates my risk
I didn't ask enough questions or do enough research in my early days of the process, now I'm diagnosed and understand more I'd be asking (probably not to GP, to urology)
- for a copy of the Biopsy results
-any history of prostate cancer in immediate family
- was it a targeted biopsy, how many cores and from where in prostate were they taken
-was the physical DRE, finger up the bum, examination all clear
-what type of scan and how good quality was the scan, what grade was the scan I think it's a 1-5 scale, there are different types of scans but I'm still not clear what I had
-what was it on the scan that made them recommend a biopsy
-My biopsy result was given to me by urology consultant not my GP, maybe it's different if nothing is found but it sounds like you need to talk to urology
- is this your first ever psa test? What were previous results
- not sure why you have to wait 6 months for another PSA if it is worrying you
-asking for a 2nd opinion, with another psa test and if needed another scan. I'm not sure how you'd do this on NHS but I'm in process of getting 2nd opinion on my private health cover
Remember nothing has been found so that's good
Now I've been diagnosed I like to ask questions and question what I'm being told, because of this I find I get a mixed reaction from the different experts.
Good luck
