My Husband had Radiotherapy for Prostate Cancer 7 years ago and had been fine until it reared its ugly head again last year.
Today he has travelled down from Yorkshire to London to have surgery tomorrow to freeze the cancerous cells (London is the only place they do this) and followed by Radiotherapy.
I wondered if anyone else has had this treatment and can give us any advice on incontinence please.
He has been told he won't know to what extent this will affect him until after the operation and wanted to be prepared for when he got home with regards to protection, pads verses pants and what make others have found best.
He will have a drain in for a few weeks but want to be prepared.I
Any advice welcome.
Hi kazash56
I can't answer your questions, as I have a different type of cancer, but I noticed that you hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' your post back to the top of the discussion list where it'll hopefully be seen by someone who can.
In the meantime, if you know the name of the procedure to freeze cancerous cells, you could put it into the search bar at the top of the page to see if any previous posts mention it.
It would be great if you could pop something about your husband's diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

Hi
while having radiotherapy I bought incontinence pads from the pharmacy, wore one but really had no need for them, there mainly all the same depends on what he’s comfortable with. Pants again never worn them, ( Although there’s still time for that ) so I would mainly rely on whay the hospital says, I’m sure they wouldn’t let him walk out with no protection.
stay safe
Joe
Hi Kazash 56,
I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer exactly 1 year ago.
I had to get a referral from a District Nurse for the Incontinence Clinic. I'd never been so embarrassed. I had a few big packs of incontinence pads sent out. I was asked a few questions about how bad I was affected by incontinence. Depending on how much leakage, depends on what size they send out.
They were big enough for putting underneath myself in bed. Also I used them inside my boxers. They were massive but done the job.
I felt more confident when outside.
At a Prostate Cancer Support Group last week I was presented with a Radar key for the disabled toilet. I was unaware that I was able to have one.
Hope this helps.
